The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

Moderato by Kalinnikov
on: May 11, 2008, 10:55:16 PM
I have been searching for months on end after a piano piece called Moderato by the Russian composer Vasily Kalinnikov. So far I have had no luck finding an edition featuring it out there. Does anyone have advice for finding a copy or possibly even a digital scan around?

Thanks in advance,

// Jason

Kalinnikov's Moderato in e flat minor is such a gorgeous piece of music.

Thank you, my quest is at an end!

I agree. It's a shame Kalinnikov did not write more music for the piano.

If you're interested in other pieces by Kalinnikov, PDF files of the sheet music for five other piano pieces by him (just about all he wrote for piano) are posted on the 'Bortkiewicz and other 2nd Division Composers' topic slot at Pianophilia. Try this direct link:

You're very welcome.

Yes, Kalinnikov only wrote 7 pieces for the piano.

They're all beautiful, but my favorites of the set are the lovely, moody Moderato and the charming Waltz.

His 2 Symphonies are very well written, filled with light and joy, with no hint of the difficulties of his life.

Tuberculosis ended his life at 35.

It was only in his piano music that he showed us some of his pain.
