Chopin's Etudes
« on: May 14, 2008, 11:47:00 PM »

I have recently found interest in them but like any other etude, they're hard. Do you know where I could start and some tips?

I began with Opus 10 No. 8, which is a good one to start with imo.

There are a few that are pretty easy to manage and slower- Op. 10 No. 3 is beautiful and 10.9 is a good one to start with.

Also take a look at the Aeolian harp etude (25.1) and also the one after that Opus 25 No. 2. Trois Nouvelle Etudes (Post-hum) I haven't played them, but I heard they were not too bad.

When I was doing your repertoire, I did Chopin 10.3. It was hard, but not at all impossible. I got an enormous amount out of it technically, and it was great for my self-confidence. Yes, everyone plays it and the tune is well-known. But there's a reason warhorses are warhorses. They do deliver. The others get substantially harder...and then downright nasty.
