Rachmaninov Etude op. 39/1 - Fingering

To those who have played it:

In the figuration which first appears in measure 1, with D-C (following Eb5) on beat 3, do you find it easier to use 1-2 or 2-1?

Please, no speculations about what you would use if you were to play this piece - only respond if you have experience with it.

Definitely 2-1 for the D-C.  The quick lateral mouvement from the E-flat (5) to the D (2) will enable much more fluidity for what follows than if you had to pass the 2 over the 1.

Thanks, Jay - that was my instinct, and is the fingering I have been using.  Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a better was to do this
