Clair de Lune help
« on: July 12, 2004, 11:47:23 PM »

I'm working on learning this and want to make sure I'm doing this the best way.

(changed pic to a link)

What is the best fingering for the left hand there?

Is it

5 3 2 1 4 3 2 1 2 3 4 1 4 1 2 3 2 3  ?

I'm not sure if it's that way because it's a little awkward going from 1 to 4 the first time.

And do you do it thumb under or not?

here is the image
dont use angelfire to host images

my advice is that you try various fingerings until you're comfortable with one

Gak!! your fingering is retched!  Try

5 3 2 1 4 2 1 2 1 2 4 5 2 1 2 4 2 4

the worst parts of your fingering is:

5 3 2 1 4 3 2 1 2 3 4 1 4 1 2 3 2 3

The music cannot sound if the fingers do not move, the fingers cannot move if the hand is stretched, therefore, the fingering you have chosen is really awkward for anyone.  additionally, try to avoid using the thumb on black keys- You will see why if you try to play quickly....

It's ages since I've played this piece but I would do,

542142121241212424 or

542142121245412424,

these suit my hand size and technique, but as said you have to find the one that suits you, I would probably do this thumb under as it's not too fast, but personally I don't really make a concious decision.

actually Stolzing, I just tried it out- using 2 3 2 3 at the end is a good idea of yours, instead of my previously suggested 2 4 2 4.  It is easier to get to the following E on the next bar over.

The 2424 only works for me cos I have a long 5th finger and a very large gap between 4th and 5th fingers, due to fracturing my 5th finger!! Grin

Thank you all for your help  Grin

I'm going with this as donjuan suggested and it works perfectly.

5 3 2 1 4 2 1 2 1 2 4 5 2 1 2 3 2 3
