Kemal Monteno - Jedne Noci U Decembru

(means "One Nights in December".. the grammar works out so you have one night be plural)

The original cast recording of "Amahl and the Night Visitors." I love this opera, especially at this time of year.

I am listening to a famous piece of piano music played by a famous pianist.

Darned if I know what it is.  I should though.  (feels ignorant)  It's from the Great Pianists Sampler CDs.

Nothing! Shocked Shocked Shocked

.... some sort of humming in the distance, a radio in another room, cars passing by, my computer making its fan and harddrive noises, a high-pitched humming in my ears as I start to doze off...

Yeah, I'm breaking the rules with this.  I'm not listening to this right now, but it's a funny story.

I was listening to some slow jazzy christmas music.  A student of mine walked in, heard the music, and asked, "Are you waiting for a woman?"  Kiss

Yes, that Beethoven guy could use a few pointers.  Perhaps I should speak to him about his music...

I'm listening to....
Faure, Pavane, English Chamber Orchestra under Paul Tortlier.

Very cool piece.

Go English Chamber Orchestra!  Cheesy

Bach, Brandenberg Concerto No. 5 (my favourite out of all 6).

The recording I have has a harpsichord - does anyone know if this is ever performed using piano?  I like harpsichord, but just curious.

i dont think so - the harpsichord is continuo - and nearly always harpsichord

the keyboard concerti are however often played on piano

Are you sure?  For some reason, I always thought the 5th Brandenberg had 3 solo instruments - violin, flute and harpsichord.

On top of which, there's no reason why you can't play the continuo part on the piano if you like (or if a harpsichord isn't available)
