Hi

In December, a young (25 years old, I think) pianist by the name of Simon Trpceski is performing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.  Of course, the orchestra's promotional material waxes lyrical about his playing.

Has anyone here heard him play, and if so, what do you think of his playing?

I have his "Russian Piano" recordings. I really enjoy them (especially all the pieces from the Nutrcracker Suite.) I wouldn't consider myself a "pianist connoisseur," but I think he plays very well.

i'm thinking about going to this also, but the price of a ticket seems a bit high especiially for someone i've never heard of before. Undecided

Yes, I agree, it's quite expensive, even the concession prices are very dear.

Going to the opera L'Orfeo (same week) is less expensive!

Go to the concert. Trpceski is an excellent pianist. For me, that is saying a lot, because I don't like very many living pianists. I've heard some live concert recordings as well as his one CD release. He is worth hearing live if you have the chance.

I saw his Rach 3 at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and I thought it was wonderful.

Oh, I ended up having to miss it because my car broke down (there's no public transport in my area, I have to drive everywhere).  Very disappointing!

I just heard of him for the first time tonight, when a friend of mine told me she went to his debut recital at the Met Museum in New York tonight.  She said he was awesome.  He played Chopin on the first half, mostly Mazurkas and Polonaises, then the second half was Brahms E-flat horn trio with members of the New York Phil.

Anyone else go to his concert tonight?

He's got sound clips on his website that sound great.

 Cool

I've heard chopson2 and scherzi, and it is very interesting (and I like it), but I'm sure a lot of people won't like it. He's going to play Prok7 and some other stuff next year, I will definately go and see it.
