WTK bk 1 prelude 1 (BWV846) tempo
«

I downloaded a version of this from pianostreet and it's marked M.M. crotchet = 112
The version I have on CD seems to be more like 66.
Is it ever played that fast?

It is more like 112 per 2 beat, which is how the piece is supposed to be counted in. I have a very bad vocabulary for note lenght in English.
But yeah, its half of what is written in my opinion, or they made a mistake and wrote a full note instead of a blank note.

I like it at the slower pace. Nice and tranquil. I just wondered if it had ever been recorded at 112.

Slower paced if you are not going to use the sustain pedal and play it detached like Gould would. Faster pace if you use the sustain to make each chord resonate as one body.
