Crotchet vs. Quarter Note
on: December 03, 2007, 05:17:31 AM
And which is correct?

Is it just geography, or is there one true naming system?

(And I just realised this should be in Polls. Damn. )

Look for this at the bottom of the screen:

And yeah, its a geographical naming system. I'll say its quarter note, but Brits will say that it's crotchet.

So what's with all the purists who insist we call them crotchets?

(And I'll move it now.)

a Quarter Note ceases to be a Quarter note in any other signature than 4/4. :P

Crotchet is more accurate.

I'll use whatever I feel like at the time, typing I am more likely to say crotchet, but speaking it's about half/half.

One of my teachers used to call it a "fourth".   I usually use quarter.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Yes, lorry/truck, lift/elevator. Doesn't matter much.
