The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more

Yet another Ondine (Live this time)
on: April 08, 2006, 10:23:31 PM
This is a live recording from a competition I participated in January. The day before they gave a whole five (5) minutes to test the piano so quite a lot of my concentration went to calibrating my technique during the performance..

Well, I have to blame SOMEthing... ;)

You have to blame something.. for WHAT?! You play it really well! Are you playing the other two mvts as well?

Whose recordings of this have you listened to? And which ones do you like?

Have you listened to Cecille Oussett's recording? Would be interested to know what you think of it.

Very good. Thanks for sharing!

;D

I did some really annoying mistakes.
I'm not playing the others yet, but I will some day :}

I've heard many (not Oussett's; maybe you could send it..?). Michelangeli, Pogorelich, Argerich and François come to mind immediately. I like all of those though I remember liking Michelangeli's version especially, but it's been a long time since I heard it..

This is a great recording  :) even more so considering you say you only had 5 minutes beforehand on the piano to get used to it.

Speaking of recordings... you should listen to Louis Lortie's Ondine. It's my favourite interpretation.. possibly surpassing even Argerich.

well done again  ;)

Just a national (Finnish) competition for music students not studying at the Sibelius Academy.

I wonder if short testing times are usual in competitions. We got 5 minutes to test the piano for the 1st round (20 min programme) and 10 minutes for the 2nd (30 min prog).
