Bach Prelude Cm Book I
on: May 01, 2007, 10:15:28 PM
Hey,

Would anyone mind sharing the fingering they use for the right hand during the Presto?

I have been trying to figure one out myself to no avail.

Thanks.

Hi!!
I've also tried different fingerings for this passage. so now i think the following is the best:
I start with the 3rd of the right hand at the presto part, then don't change the natural fingering until the last 16th-note (c2) in the second quarter beat: take again the 3rd finger. Continue this until the end of the 2nd bar of the presto, use the 2nd finger at the last note of this 2nd bar. i take the following d1 with the left hand to simplify the jump. then use the same fingering like in the beginning. 5th + 6th bar: 1-3-2-3, 1-5-4-5, 1-4-3-4, 1-5-4-5; 1-4-3-4, 2-1-2-3, 4-2-1-3, 4-2-1-2.
Good luck!!!
Eva

I use this: it's easy...
(M1): 3-2-3-4-2-1-3-1-3-2-3-4-2-1-3
(M2): 1-3-2-3-4-2-1-3-1-3-2-3-4-1-2-3
(M3): 1-3-2-3-4-1-2-3-1-3-2-3-4-2-1-3
(M4): 1-3-2-3-4-1-2-3-1-3-2-3-4-2-1-2
(M5): 1-3-2-3-1-5-4-5-1-4-3-4-1-5-4-5
(M6): 1-4-3-4-2-1-2-3-4-2-1-3-4-2-1-2

I've been practicing the presto part of Bach's WTC prelude 2 (starting at measure 28) for about 4 months. At some point I gave up, then tried again later, this time with the fingering shown in one of the other PDF's on this site. I also started HS instead of HT and using the 7x20 rule.  I've been going at refingering it and trying to get it back up to speed again for the last two months.

I dunno what it is, but this is the freaking hardest thing I think I've ever played, or I'm just too uncoordinated and dysfunctional to play it.  I can play it just fine slowly, really slowly, but not at the speed that its meant to be played at.  What am I doing wrong? Why is it taking me so long?

Sixteenth notes, and the sixteenth note rest, divide each measure of the presto in 16 equal parts.  I believe that, unless considerations of context clearly override, parts 1,3,5,7,9,11,13, and 15 should be done with fingers 1,3, and 5, while parts 2,4,6,8,10,12.14, and 16 are for fingers 2 and 4.  See what's behind my theory of fingering?  Odd-numbered fingers on odd-numbered parts, mostly.  Accordingly, I would finger the right hand as (rest) 434532314345323 1434532314345323 1434532314345323 1434532314345323 1323154514341545 1545321252125212 and the left hand as (rest) 232134352321343 5232134352321343 5232134352321343 5232134313431454 3121 512151215121 to get to the seventh chord (of IV).  It looked as though a lot of people were interested in this topic.  A lot of people do this prelude, that's for sure.
