Are people's hands that big???
on: November 22, 2007, 05:49:49 PM
Here, I have a small excerpt from the score of Mussorgsky's "The Hut on Fowl's Legs" from Pictures at an Exhibition. It this possible to play? If so, how?
Working on:
Beethoven - Waldstein Sonata
Bach - C minor WTC I
Liszt - Liebestraume no. 3
Chopin - etude 25-12

That F (sharp is in the previous bar) sharp comes from the previous bar and is sustained with the pedal, you don't have to play it. there together with the A octave. You could also use the middle pedal for that F#.

Instead, you could use your nose to play the F sharp.

This goes by so fast it's probably not efficient to use the middle pedal...  why don't you use the damper?

As most everyone has already mentioned, this is a sustain pedal issue. This style of notation is found in abundance in Debussy's music.

yeah, it's simply playing f#with the 1st finger and the octaves that follow with 3 and 5. ;)

Heck, I use 4 and 5.
For us musicians, the music of Beethoven is the pillar of fire and cloud of mist which guided the Israelites through the desert.  (Roughly quoted, Franz Liszt.)
