First chick made it out.  This is a good time to watch them grow up.

I think I saw the parents bring up a mouse or rat this afternoon.

Wow how cute  :)
(But still... poor mice and rats and other little animals.  :( i know that's how it is and it's completely normal and natural and all but I just can't get over that, that's why I can't be that excited about it even though it's very cute.)

You didn't post anything last year? Were there no babies recorded last year?

In 2013 those eagles switched nests.  They couldn't put a webcam up on the new nest since it would bother them.  In the fall when the eagles aren't around as much, they switched the webcam, so now we've got the new nest.

There are probably another three young eagles from last year flying around somewhere.

In 2012, three hatched.  Two of the three got electrocuted by utility poles when they were old enough to fly around a bit.

If they're cranking out three eaglettes per year though... Just guessing, but they could have 30+ children out there.  I'm not finding answer on total offspring with a quick search.

The second and third eggs could be hatching soon.  I know the first egg hit 35 days since it was laid on March 30th.  I'm not sure when the others were laid.

Speaking of which....

I see the second one hatched out between yesterday afternoon and this morning.  Not sure when the third one should hatch.

Oh no, two of the three got electrocuted!!???  ???  :o that's horrible!  :( i knew about one and I thought it was just a very unlucky accident, but two?? shouldn't those utility poles be safe??! How can it be so easy for a bird to get electrocuted?? I don't even want to think about this!

I imagine they made the poles around there bird safe now.  It would happen to other birds too.  For all the work those two eagles put into their chicks -- They start repairing the nest in the fall, raise them in the spring, and then two of the three die.  Plus the effect of not having those eagles -- These two parents are cranking out three eaglettes a year now.  The ones that died don't produce any more offspring.

I was just curious.  Are you from Iowa?   Because i'm from nebraska.  I adore the midwest.
On another note, i felt a bit of nostalgia reading these posts.  m1469, bless her heart,  Pianowolfi, Littletune.
And on yet another note, why can't i see the cam shots?  In Lincoln we had a cam on a family of hawks. But this is more exciting!  If i could see them...

Me?  From Iowa?  I can't say.... I live among the shadows, lurking, anonymous....

There's an ad you have to watch at the beginning of the ustream channels, unless you for a subscription I think.  It uses flash so you'd have to have that installed, or maybe updated if they require a certain version.  I think some browsers block flash from starting by default now.  You have to tell it to play a flash video.

Are those Florida eagles doing anything?  I see one there in the dark, sillouetted.

I haven't checked on the Decorah ones for a long time.  I saw usteam.tv looks like a lot of animal webcams now, but I think the novelty of them wore off a bit.

Could be moonlight.  I think there's an infrared light there though, but there must be other light sources.  It switches to an infrared camera at night.  I don't think they can see any difference.  They looked pretty blind at night when anything happens.

Or not.  I thought they'd be hatching now.

Well I'm confused.

I believe this is the original one.
https://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles

And this might be one of their kids.

I don't know which eggs hatched.  ::)

Both webcams are supposed to be live, but the bird isn't moving the same way.    I thought maybe it was different angles.

Yeah, Decorah North is different.  Offspring of the original ustream eagles I think.
https://www.raptorresource.org/forum/index.php?topic=2343.0

I don't know who had eggs hatch.

Wrong (not the originals) for hatches in this article I think.  And the pics are mixed up.

Looks like they laid three eggs.  One of those cracked, so that was the extra shell in the nest.  So the first chick might hatch tomorrow if the first egg survived.

https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/decorah-eagles/

I see the male isn't even the original one from around 2012.  He disappeared last year and the same female found another male to breed with.

Both have eggs -- Decorah the first one and Decorah North, one of the children I think.

Decorah had one egg crack a while ago.
Decorah North had two eggs, but one hatched and died the first day, I think.

Chicks have hatched though, a few weeks ago.  Now's a good time to watch them.

https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/decorah-eagles/

https://www.raptorresource.org/birdcams/decorah-north-nest/

The Decorah North chick hatched a few days before the regular Decorah nest.

And... The Decorah nest female is still the same, but I read the male disappeared, so this is a new male. :-\

Original Decorah nest.  Same female, different male now.  The previous male disappeared.

Decorah North.  Offspring of the original eagle webcam.  A cattle ranch somewhere around there.

They're doing nestorations now.  I've seen many eagles on the north nest though, without the white head, so they're younger bald eagles probably.  Maybe 8 at one point all by the river.

Dang.  I guess it's more toward the end of March when there will be eggs.
