Why am I more accurate my eyes closed ?
on: December 03, 2014, 03:12:10 PM
Hi people,

I've just figured as I was practicing jumps on a piece by
Listz, that I could not only play that part more accuratly in particular, but the whole song !! How come, and why/if so not people talking about that?

This guy had a lot to say about it: https://www.guitar69.com/21748475-l-bonpensiere-new-pathways-to-piano-technique-1953.pdf

Sight takes up about 40% of your brain capacity.  Haptic sense much less.  I've often found a difficult passage sorts itself out with eyes closed.

No amount of how-to information is going to work if you have the wrong mindset, the wrong guiding philosophies. Avoid losers like the plague, and gather with and learn from winners only.

Long before Peter.  He would know of Kosnick and I've thought of taking it to him to translate but he's too busy.  I only have a hard copy of Gat but also his fascinating history of keyboards: A Zongora Története in Hungarian!  Fantastic illustrations though.  Attached Gat playing some CPE on Clavichord.

Hmm ... I have several duplicate DVDs I "gleaned" to be unique from the German Amazon site.

If you google ideo-kinetics you'll see how influential Kosnick is/was.

If I have to google it, I suspect the answer is "not especially".

Well just hoogle him then - Heinrich Kosnick.  I don't think he's about to turn up in your local paper.  Very big with dancers!

Great, yet another learn to speak German DVD has popped through the letter box!

 Very big with dancers!

So is foot balm and corn pads.

Apparently he's not big enough to have a Wikipedia entry, though he wrote a book on Busoni, so can't be all bad.

Imagery? I think it's that, when I play my eyes closed, I mentualy visualize my keys, but it's very unintuive, I thought sight + kinetic together would be strong, but I guess what works for me is Mental imagery + Kinetic. I really start feeling the keys, and the music becomes much more musical.

I guess it's what happens to blind people, they developp a kind of radar, like the bats...

You take the CPU use of the eyes and transfer it to your audition, and it's the principle, hearing the resonance of the sound waves, you kinda know where things are around you... Don't you think?

Yes, though people vary.  My teacher (many years ago!) was always bemused by the fact I had to stare into space (be unfocused) to concentrate rather than look at my hands.

the most likely answer is that in your previous life you were a mole with very poor eyesight that had to rely on your other senses

Yeah that makes sense. I never took the time to figure what my previous lives were like, nothing makes more sense than what you just said
