Would say he had more than a few issues.

I think he and bobby schu would have made great sanitarium/assylum cell mates.

My guess it's all down to hot housing.  Look at Chopin - he wasn't crazy.

A little bit?  He was a very fine pianist for some music.  He was very exacting as to his instrument and seating position, to the point of obsession.  Actually, I'm not sure one would use the term "crazy" for him, but he certainly could never have been described as normal.  Some people I have talked to have said that it was impossible to offer him advice, and exceedingly difficult to work for or please -- it was his way or the highway, every time.  Perhaps somewhere on the Asperger's/autism spectrum?
