Democratic Republic of Congo
on: September 23, 2015, 10:17:57 PM
OK, I CHOSE VIETNAM, BUT THEN SOMEONE DECIDED TO SAY SOMETHING INAPPROPIATE, SO WE HAD TO BE REASSIGNED COUNTRIES AND I GOT THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO.

(1) Any info except for what's on Wikipedia?
(2) Any piano-related info?
(3) How can I ask my teacher politely to CHANGE ME BACK TO VIETNAM????????

Because I'm TERRIBLY interested in ancient Vietnam, and Vietnamese folkmusic, so, I REALLY WANT TO DO VIETNAM.

(BTW, this is for French Class, for a project about any Francophone country)

Oh, and for the famous person, I REALLY want to do Dang Thai Son because I think Ivo Pogorelich's playing is dull and boring.

Unfortunately, I've yet to find a famous living Congolese classical/jazz musician or folksong. If anyone knows of any, please speak up! (Especially if you know of some nice folktunes/songs ;D)

I feel you now, dogperson ;D

Besides, I found a clip about Kinshasa's Orchestra:

It's amazing, especially considering that everyone in the orchestra, including the conductor, all are amateur musicians.

John Green movies are so trash, why would you read the works that inspired them

Considering that pre-colonial/European Congo was basically tribal (uncivilized) they lack any sort of classical tradition that Europe, Indians, the Islamic world, China, and Japan were blessed with.

Considering that during its colonial period Congolese people were treated harshly through slavery, butchering, decapitations, massacres, and poverty they didn't really get the chance to be 'educated' by Europeans.

Considering that post-colonial Congo has been ravaged by constant civil/tribal warfare, corruption, poverty, massacres, rape, no education, poor health care etc, they haven't really created the proper conditions to create intellectual nationals.

So no, there's nothing noteworthy when it comes to congolese culture. It's currently hell on earth. I bet you that the only thing that you'll be able to actually talk about in detail are all the crappy stuff that happened and still is happening in Congo. There's honestly nothing good about that country. As it is with most African countries.

“Going up that river was like travelling back to the earliest beginnings of the world, when vegetation rioted on the earth and the big trees were kings. An empty stream, a great silence, an impenetrable forest. The air was warm, thick, heavy, sluggish. There was no joy in the brilliance of sunshine. The long stretches of the waterway ran on, deserted, into the gloom of overshadowed distances... And this stillness of life did not in the least resemble a peace. It was the stillness of an implacable force brooding over an inscrutable intention. It looked at you with a vengeful aspect.”  Conrad

Watch the Virtuous Queen of Han. Then, you'll know that no books can compare to some movies.
