Learning Scarlatti Aria-kind feedback welcome
on: March 31, 2016, 02:16:17 PM
Hello,

My daughter is learning Scarlatti Aria.
I posted her practicing video on YouTube
&feature=youtu.be in case you would like to offer feedback.

The opening has to thirty second notes followed by sixteenth notes (Do they sound like triplets when she plays them?)

Kind suggestions welcome :) Thank you

Your video is marked private.  You'll have to change your settings.  I think that "unlisted" is what you are after rather than "private".  With "unlisted" it's not out there for the general public, but anyone getting the link will be able to view it.

Hello, am not a teacher but have learned and love this little piece.
Yes, I do think they sound like triplets. I think it's because she's emphasising the first note too much, and not giving the third note, F, its full value. She's tending to cut it short and not let it flow into the following notes. Also, I think she's playing the 3/8 rhythm very literally so it's sounding ploddy.
It's titled Aria so maybe she should sing along with it. Then she will find the phrasing goes over two bars for a singer to make sense of it. So she should be heading for the Bb in the second bar as the high point of the first phrase. If you play at being singers you find that the F and the Bb are the important notes in this first little phrase. Similarly with the next two bars. They are like gentle waves, not a walking 123, 123 but more a lilting 1--,2--
Hope this makes sense! A lovely piece and she's already expressing some nice dynamic contrasts.

Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

Thank you dorfmouse for wonderful fresh perspective and explenation. Thinking of having her join a choir/singing lessons when she is a little older to help her with phrasing. She has been sick with a virus all week and hardly did any practicing. Looking forward to get back into practicing soon.
