The Well-tempered Clavier, Grade levels
on: May 12, 2020, 05:12:46 PM
Is there a comprehensive list of the grade level for of each of the preludes and fugues (as pairs) Books 1 and 2?  Nothing obvious revealed via Google.

Now... how to cancel a 10 minute-old post.  Found most of them at the Toronto RCM site.   Almost all at "level 10" or A.R.C.T. (Associate) as of 2015 syllabus:

pages 80,88.

Hi Johnlewisgrant,

Henle has a complete grading system of WTC Books 1 and 2:
https://www.henle.de/us/detail/?Title=The+Well-Tempered+Clavier+Part+I+BWV+846-869_1014
https://www.henle.de/us/detail/?Title=The+Well-Tempered+Clavier+Part+II+BWV+870-893_16

Regardless, ranking them in difficulty is highly subjective, depending on the strengths. Henle's explanation of difficulty rankings can be found here:https://www.henle.de/us/about-us/levels-of-difficulty-piano/

Hope this helps!
I hate music (and sarcasm) :)

Liszt Rhapsodie Espagnole
Prokofiev Sonata 4 op.29
