I'm not political.  I didn't think candidates would get worse, but it looks like they have.  Donald Trumpet or Hillary Clinton.  And regardless of anything I do, one of those two will be President.

Don't be so sure. ;)

Low calories throughout the day, then binge eating at night.  And the dent that puts in practicing.  Lack of energy at night, even right away in the evening after work.

Fallout from breaking new ground in a hard push from exercising.

Interesting to watch a habit get broken down.  At first control prevails.  Then the habit returns.  Then more control and the habit isn't quite the same.  Over and over, with the habit becoming less and less effective.

Jesus christ I just googled this and the it's so freaking morbid. Knowing him I can't even begin to imagine how you're feeling...

:/
His funeral was today. It's just terrible what has happened, it's not a nice feeling and will haunt all of us for a long time. He was a boy of faith so I am pleased that he will see his creator with his own eyes.

Caloric intake.  "The wall."  Fasting.  Energy.

I tried cutting calories a lot on Thurs and Fri.  Then I just stopping eating entirely after Friday evening.  Thurs and Fri I was busier but there was a huge energy dip at night.  I'm thinking that's the transition between food energy and energy stored in the muscles over to energy from fat.  This morning energy still felt low, kind of a crappy state like I was running on an old battery.  But then it actually smoothed out an got better.  Less brain fog, less of a dip in energy.  It's like the battery got better.  Not much for hunger pains today either.  I was thinking about eating something small, but now I'm kind of curious what's next and it's a chance to push 'my record' for this a little farther tomorrow.

I also added exercise in the form of walking to burn off calories.  Miles and miles.  Morning walking, evening walking.  So far that's worked.  This might be fluids like I've seen online but the numbers on the scale drop throughout the day when I check.

And it's interesting that sleep is more important than food.  I knew water was more important than food, but I thought some food each day was more on par with sleep.  Sleep beats food.  Not sure how water and sleep stack up but those both beat food.

I should listen through a top 40 list to get up to speed on some pop music....

I guess this would be it?  Is this still relevant or accurate with the internet existing?
https://www.billboard.com/charts/pop-songs

That's got the music, plus Wikipedia for a quick blurb on the... person credited to being an 'artist' for these.  Raw lump of vocal clay?  Or the image-person used?

Discovered the source of the mold smell in my kitchen (fruit rotting in a bag under over good looking fruit).

Also discovered a pretty rancid overflow tray of grease/water on a griddle frying thing.  ::)

Life is good again...  ::) or should be once the smells clear up.

If a Pavlovian response is just a simple A-B, like bell-salivate, or if it could involve something more complicated, something with thought, like stimulus... motivation as the response.  Point being conscious thought isn't involved so much or at all, but the response does involve complex thought.

I wish science would investigate the "voodoo" mysteries that still exist.  These are the things people still argue endlessly about on the internet.  They exist in music too, although I haven't seen it as much with piano.  Does an extra device actually help practicing?  Does a certain type of practice work best?  The one I'm really thinking of though is lactic acid.  Muscles burn after practicing?  That's lactic acid.  Is it good or bad?  Is what people think really what's going on?  We end up with differing viewpoints, and both sound like they make sense.  There's no way for the lay person to really tell which is which though, in terms of what's actually going on.

If it's not out there already... Someone should post news tv shows from the past.  You could go back and see what the zeitgeist was around that time.

I'm looking around.  I'm not quite finding whole news shows though from day to day news.

I just started working on arpeggios and boy what a trip...

After I finally got used to properly playing scales and stuff at a decent tempo, my teacher suddenly decided to go like "alright, next lesson you'll play so and so arpeggios at `allegro tempo or higher, in 8th, 16th, and triplets rhythms over 5 octaves..."

I was like, you crazy, I just freaking learned how to do this and now I'm supposed to do all that in a week?! Anyways, I tried it and boom, over the past 3 weeks my everything suddenly got better. My dynamic control, my relaxation, my dexterity..you name it. I swear, there was this passage in Chopin's polonaise op. 44 that I had a bit of trouble with (scale run right before the return of the a section) and boom, now I can play it effortlessly...
Or I can play a lot more quietly than before.
I've only been learning the rond al mazur for like 2 weeks and I'm already playing the passages I was afraid of like I've been playing them for months!

....

It's hard to believe that I'm getting ALL of this from just working on bloody arpeggios. It's freaking incredible.  Every practice sessions feels like I'm ten times better than I was the day before. My goal of learning Chopin's ballades felt like a fantasy, now I feel like it's achievable.

^ Can confirm. Part of learning to play arpeggios fast is learning to relax your wrist and fingers and let the forearms guide (which are supported by the biceps and the back + rest of your muscular structure), which translates to nearly every aspect of playing.
If you can play arpeggios quickly, it helps with a lot of other aspects of playing.

I love reading your piano-science stuff. After reading your explanation, it makes a lot more sense. Still a bit mind-boggling to get all of that from arperggios...

Also, I'm pretty sure it's starting to give me an illness that our dear Franz Liszt warned us about...:

All young artists suffer from virtouso fever

Playing flashy piano stuff is so fun. It took Liszt at least 3 decades to get over it, since I'm late starter...I have a feeling it might last my entire lifespan.  ;D

Hah, I'd hardly call it "piano-science", but many thanks nonetheless ;D
The other thing that may make a drastic difference in your playing; learning to improvise.
At the very least, you reinforce the patterns you know and don't mess with the ones you don't... Often, you end up connecting the physical-musical ideas though. So, do with that what you will..

In any case, glad things are going well for ya!

Leg muscles.

Largest muscles in the body.  Greater combined effect, esp. for something like pulling on bones and tendons/ligaments.  Or kneecaps.

Almost always used, esp. compared with the arms/upper body.  Something like the arms has a lot more rest time.

I was kind of considering legs and arms similar but the legs seem like they're on a different, more utilitarian level.  Greater impact, greater potential for positives/negatives, and fairly difficult to *not* use.

How to burn fat without losing too much muscle.  I burned fat before but looked a little more skeletal than I expected.  So tried to build up muscles and that worked to some extent, along with growing some fat.  Now if I get rid of the fat I'm wondering if the muscles will disappear too....

Vaguely remembering a dream...

The lowest section of the keyboard was all black keys.  So... How do you play the piece if they're all black keys?

And then another octave in the lower left section had the keys, just white I guess, had the keys at a 90 degree angle, horizontal to the pianist instead of vertical.

Why do people say one thing and mean another.

Life would be easier if people were honest.

We care to much about saving face, shielding an ego and not hurting peoples feelings.

If you have done something terrible, surly you would want to know how to make it better; why do you insist on deluding your child.

If you tell them something is correct when it is wrong, you handicap them; whats worst, they learn pretty quickly that your word is not worth a damn.

Just be honest.

The last supermoon was in 1948.  That's where the is closer to Earth and it happens to be a full moon (I think).

And they say odd things happen around the time of a full moon.

So... What happened in 1948?

https://www.trumanlibrary.org/teacher/campaign.htm

I think the next supermoon is 2034 so we might expect an usual Presidential election then too I guess.
