Habemus papAm. First Pope Francesco, ever. First south american. Now if he could only be the first in bringing the catholic church into the 21st century.

Habemus papem. First Pope Francesco, ever. First south american.
First Jesuit too. Of course, he will also be the last of these (and everything else Papal) if the various internet soothsayers are to be believed (google "francis petrus romanum").
21st century seems a bit of a stretch. Perhaps we could hope for the 20th, though.

Ehm, I don't want to be pedantic, but it's "Habemus papam..
Well I live not far from St. Peter, and it's really crazy: you have no idea how feverish and crazy it's here: the crowd, the tourists, the pilgrims....
Anyway, my husband's name is Francesco, my trainer'name is Francesco, and my best friend too has this name:I like him!!!! ;) ;) ;) ;)

I love Argentina too. Especially the Falklands.
I think it is right to have a South American Pope as they appear to be holding on to their faith, whilst Europeans who have had 2,000 years of Catholicism are deserting the faith in large numbers.
Perhaps because the movement is riddled with corruption and protect paedophiles and systematic sex abusers within their ranks.
Since they can no longer murder people who do not hold their view, their power will gradually evaporate.
