I downloaded the first of these "Fugitive Visions" today. It is one page, and rather interesting. I played it. It is rather strange sounding -- atonal and seemingly without any distinct melody. Lots of "cloudy" chords. Rather "modern."
Has anyone played the set? I believe the complete Op. 22 has as many as 20 or 24 separate pieces.
Are they -- as a whole -- interesting?
Are they do-able at the late intermediate level? The first one was very manageable.
Any info would be appreciated. Thank you - - -

I have played around with many of them...
they're all interesting pieces and some are pretty hard for being less than a minute long...go listen to Prokofiev & Richter's recordings for a better idea

The V.F. are great as a whole set. Many are not hard to play but are hard to play in a very satisfying way. On the other hand many are hard to play, I am sorry my score is nowhere to be found, but I am thinking of the one in c-# minor, or the second to last one, or even the difficult 19-something-tuplet in the second piece. But rest assured that all of the problems have a pianistic solution.
I wasn't aware that Prokofiev recorded them himself, are those recordings on the internet, or can they be purchased somewhere?

you definately HAVE to play them as a set... it just isn't fulfiling on its own.

"Prokofiev plays Prokofiev" on the Naxos label. This is an awesome cd; the playing is electrifying. The sound quality is crap, but that just adds to the nostalgia. ;D And it's only $7 on amazon! :o I got mine for even cheaper than that, and I couldn't believe the deal. Imagine if there was a Liszt plays Liszt record out there, it would be worth a fortune; I'll take Prokofiev for $7 any day. ;)
It only has 9 of the Visions, but it also has the 3rd concerto and a number of his smaller works.
