its not part of the cycle of 10
but it SHOULD BE!!!
its totally awesome man, written in his youth, and considered maybe too juvenile to be grouped with the later 10.
but...IMO its a masterpiece, the finale is my favourite movementc-

this is the CD, its all awesome
and as you can hear it has awesome sound too, naxos is very hit and miss but this is an insane HIT
Bernd Glemser is the pianist, i havent heard much of his other playing, but apparently he also does kick-ass rach concertos.

There are quite a bunch of recordings of this piece. Im not a Bernd Glemser fan at all, his Proko sonatas were just horrid when I heard them when Naxos released it, dunno if it got better anyway. My preferred recs for this piece are:
Michael Ponti (his Scriabin is really something, between percussive and mellow heh)
3rd Mov. 5,38 meg
https://rapidshare.de/files/4809516/04_-_Scriabin_-_Sonata_in_E_flat_minor_Op_Posth_-_03_-_Presto.mp3.html
&
Roberto Szidon (he's brazilian y'know! - his Scriabin is not the number 1 because Gavrilov has better crescendos, Richter has better voicing and Freire has better tone, but still... this is one for the catalogue, deffo)
3rd Mov. 7,87 meg
https://rapidshare.de/files/4809686/Roberto_Szidon_-_3_Presto.mp3.html
gimme your ideas.
Both are the 3rd Mov., even tho I prefer the first XD Nice allegro appasionato there!
Scriabin is uber. Spread the word ;D
-
Are you serious??
This is INSANE.
Wow, that score looks crazy crazy, might have to try it tomorrow....
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

wow thanks!
i havent heard any other, i really really like the glemser scriabin cd i have with this on, but ill listen to these recordings with an open mind, thanks again!

Ive got a Naxos CD with Zarafiant playing some Scriabin Preludes, and there are some bonus tracks with preludes by Scriabin son! (Julian Scriabin). They sound alike hehe, very disturbed and painful. And the history around this family is quite perverted too!
Little is detailed of Julian Scriabin, who appears to have been a son by Alexander's second partner. He lived just 11 years, and was obviously following in his father's footsteps.
.... Vers La Flamme mebbe
-
yes i have those too
really, i must say they are the most amazing works written by a boy of such a young age, really advanced and cool harmony.
-
HOLY ****!!!!
i didnt realise the possibilities of this music, those 2 recordings are both AWESOME and yet so different.
its really amazing how each recording, glemser included, is so different and expresses really different things.
i mean, when i have to come to interpreting this piece its gonna be so hard, so many choices and all of them kick ass!
i was really SHOCKED by ponti's ending, very fast and loud, where glemser is extremely soft and extremely slow.
and it works so well either way!
yep, this is for sure in my top 5 piano piece of all time.

Since you like the Ponti one have some more:
- Ponti - 1st movement 9.4 meg 188kbps
https://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0W6JO200PV6661FIJMMYFPANRD - Ponti - 2nd movement 6.7 meg 188kbps
https://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2WZ2RU8DENQ4Y3FA08A5P4IE47
And don't u forget to post on the Audition Room 8)
Also, if you like loud endings and neglected russian masterpieces, check out Feinberg's 1st sonata & Myakovsky Sonatine & Prokofiev Sonatinas!
-
Thanks for this discovery. it certainly is AWESOME. WhyTF isnt it included with the other sonatas!
-
thanks pabst!!
and im entirely sure, but if you can believe it, this sonata was composed when scriabin was 17! :o
-
The piece does sound immature. Though impressive for a 17 year old, I don't think this piece has that much musical value.

My mention of the Myakovsky's sonatine as a russian masterpiece was intended for portraying the status of the term "masterpiece" in a way as conceptually elastic as it can possibly be. 8)

care to elaborate why you think this?

-
I finally could download the files, i just tried later and it worked, don't understand.... amazing recording!!! ;D
-
Did anyone download the score? the link isnt working for me, can someone post it up? its incredible!
-
Why is the score considerably different from the Ponti recordings? are their 2 versions?

piano.ru is a wierd site - one day it works, the next it doesnt - I can e-mail it to you if you still can't get it.
-
Thanks a lot, I tried the link today and it worked.
Just one other question, i was listening to Ponti's recording and following the score, he added a lot in the end of the 3rd mvt, is there another version of this sonata? or was it just some random sheet he came up with?

Ponti played the op. 4 Allegro Appassionata instead of the actual first movement of the Eb minor sonata. If you want a better performance of the sonata as well as a performance of the op. 4, get the Stephen Coombs disc, Early Scriabin. Glemser's performance is just as good, possibly better.
-
As for the quality of the work, it definitely doesn't have the maturity of Scriabin's f minor "sonata no. 1".
It's unfortunate the Scriabin didn't revise the entire sonata and publish it, but I'm not surprised that he instead chose to move on.
-
maturity=quality?
-
Stevie, you spend too much time on this site

Is the op.4 a reworking of the sonata?
-
Stevie, you spend too much time on this site
possibly, but i play so fast, leaves alot of time to spare.
-
Is the op.4 a reworking of the sonata?
Yes, although the "Early Scriabin" liner notes say the two pieces share "remarkably few bars" and the op. 4 lacks the sonata form.
