normally i'm not one to post on alcohol, but my husband just returned from france and is raving about a place near the champs d'lsay (how do you spell it?) that is called 'the academy of beer.'
he went in and asked for some specific flavors and was recommended a belgian beer called 'westmall.' he said it was the best beer he ever tasted. i had never heard of it. of course, i haven't been drinking that much lately. i'm more of a waterholic.
anyway, i don't know if this is imported or not.

If you want beer come to England.

I had enjoyed a few too many Grolsch brand beers in a convenient flip top bottle on this particular occasion. Never heard of Westmall tho. Only stella

My favorite beer at the moment is the india pale ale from a local brewery called Stone Brewing Co.
BTW, is anyone into scotch or bourbon?
-
I'm fond of beer. I'll check that out next time I'm in France.
I prefer listerine to scotch.

Agreed. Maybe the one thing that I wait the whole year long for is having my boyfriend come over to tune my piano while we run thru several bottles of wine :P
-
i hear you on the listerine to scotch. i only use that when i'm sick. a bit in a cup of hot water.
agreed about the wine, although beer isn't too bad on a hot day.

Single malts forever!

Veritas vos liberabit.
The truth shall set you free.
In vino veritas.
In wine there is truth.
Ergo:
Vino vos liberabit.
Therefore:
Wine shall set you free. ;D

I'll drink to that!

Being on the verge of an Alcoholic at points in my life, i have to say that if you are going to be drinking a lot, and frequently you should drink wine. Hard Alchohol will completley destroy your insides (not to mention your head), and Beer.. Beer is just gross. But i do enjoy a good Brandy! ;)
-
why do we picture the typical alcoholic with a wine bottle hidden away somewhere? could it be that beer has a little less punch (alcohol) and more water? or are they both about the same? one is fermented quicker? beer? and, one is derived from barley and the other from grapes. anyway, i don't have a preference because i don't drink that much. on one occasion i had the opportunity to taste a wine that had been bottled for about 30 years. i was prepared to not like it, so i took a very very tiny taste...and mmm that was so good, i had some more. usually don't crave wine, but it was very smooth tasting sauvignon.

if i've not mistaken, wine features a higher alcohol percentage than the average beer.

You are not mistaken. Wine, generally, has about 14-15% alcohol by volume. Beer, depending on country or origin, or State Law in the US usually has 3.2-6% by volume.

hmmm. so, if you drink two beers it's the same as one glass of wine? oh well. i usually don't drink two beers anyway - but just wondering.
saw a really disgusting show as i was changing channels the other day of people eating as many hard boiled eggs as they could. i don't know which is worse. over drinking or over eating hard boiled eggs.
i suppose hard boiled eggs don't affect your driving, but they look really disgusting when someone's too full of them.

Not exactly. Remember, we're dealing with % by volume. A glass of wine is usually around 4 fluid ounces. A typical beer is 12 oz, i.e. a bottle or can. The total amount of alcohol will be about the same for these two quantities. In other words, if you drink 12 oz of WINE you'll be drinking the equivalent alcohol of 3 12-oz beers. This is rough math, but you get the picture. Additionally, hard alcohol has about 3-4 times the alcohol by volume that wine does. So, generally:
1 oz - Hard alcohol
4 oz - Wine
12 oz - beer
contain the same amount of total alcohol.

i will print this out and keep it in safekeeping for when i want to gauge the effects (notebook/pad) on my teenage son.
i once allowed him to drink one beer and then try one of his video games that was driving related. unfortunately, he thought he drove better. thankfully, i don't think he'll drink and drive though because i talk about it when he's with me driving, and my husband is really particular about it too. ii tell him - ok. if you want to drink, tell me. i'll buy you a case of beer (not really) and you can drink at home until you go to sleep. then all you have to do is walk upstairs and go to bed.
-
You get a much better pavement pizza with beer.
-
they pay for the pitchers of beer by getting people soused so that they hand over all their money to their kids for video games. when the evening is done, they've made more money on the video games than that amount of beer sold by the glass. (knew there was some catch to free or cheap beer).

If this happens, I'll be very displeased with you.
I would just have to kill them all by dousing my pits with scotch. :P

Lagavulin eh, I'll have to try to get my hands on some. I'm generally not a single malt scotch conoisseur because I generally don't have a whole lot of money, but i'll definately check it out. :)

...and your colorful posts have taught me what beige and teal are. Brownish and greenish! ;D
Back OT; I love gin, goes down so smooth.
I like some red wine, but I don't know a thing about wines... Smelling it, judging it'n all that. But I have seen Sideways twice. I'm learning.

I noticed that if you use a different colour in your post, the quote stays in the original colour instead of changing to blue.

Try Bombay Sapphire Gin. It's the best I've had. 8)

As long as you enjoy the wine, that's all that matters. :)

Yes, I've been there a few times myself. :-X :-\

How true!!! The only thing that makes a good wine better, IMO, is sharing it with good company.
