Title: new programme
Post by: la_leggierezza on October 12, 2005, 09:38:37 AM
hello everyone!!!  :)

I have to chose a new programme! I talk with my teacher and she said that i could play Beethoven´s 32 variation on a theme in c minor WoO 80, Schumman´s Carnaval op 9, Kinderszenen, Waldszenen, Pappillons and a rapsody by Brahms. What do u think about this pieces? i have to chose at least one of those so please help me!  ;D any suggestion?

thank you

PS: i have to chose a new sonata too. i finished Beethoven´s moonlight! any suggestions?

personally I like Carnaval best from your list. it's the longest piece on the list though...

new beethoven sonata? what about No. 14 in D major "Pastorale"? Look at the 2nd movement first...  ;)

Here are some sonata suggestions:

Beethoven

No.15 in D major 'Pastorale'
No.2 in A major
No.17 in D minor 'Tempest' (but ONLY if you can commit to the triplets.)
No.11 in Bb major
No.13 in Eb major 'Quasi una fantasia' (I always wondered what both Op.27 sonatas would sound like on a program, Eb then Moonlight.)

Mozart

K.310 in A minor
K.332 in F major
K.457 in C minor with the K.475 Fantasia
K.576 in D major

Chopin

No.1 in C minor (the other two are much more advanced, but this one still poses a challenge)

i think the best choice would be beethoven op.7 as somebody previous mentioned...i really don't understand why people tend to choose overplayed sonatas such as moonlight, pathetique..
beethoven op.7 is very demanding one but fairly managable, very beautiful. besides it's like jackpot on auditions and competitions if played well.
another one is Les Adieux, although more played and IMO more complicated then op.7

good luck!

For your Beethoven, do the companion piece, Op. 27 #1.

Your romantic repertoire is not at the same level at all, Carnaval is way harder than the other pieces on your list.  I would recommend Schumann Op. 15 or Brahms Op. 10.

I don't know your level but ... Rachmaninoff sonata no.1 is really AMAZING! And it is not played as often as the second one. And personally I like it better.
