Title: Debussy. Which to start?
Post by: debussy symbolism on October 19, 2005, 07:15:49 PM
Greetings to you all. I am new to the forum and am happy to share my comments with you.  So... On with the question.

Claude Debussy is one of my favourite composers, along with Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, Bach and more. I would really love to learn his piano compositions, all of them in fact. I have so far learned his "La Cathedrale Engloutie" from the first prelude book, I'm sure you are familiar with it. I have the notes memorizez ( I'm saying notes not interpretation) for most of the piece except the part right after the grand chordal melody remeniscent of the organ. I have also started on his Clair de Lune. Would it be more helpful to learn his Arabesque 1 and then continue with the Clair de Lune, I have trouble with the arpeggios being performed fast, or the other way around. I have been playing the fortepiano for about 6 months and I'm really going well, I love to practice, improvise/"compose" and love to learn music. I would really appreciate your comments concerning the Debussy pieces. As for now, I got to go practice. Love the Bach Inventions and Mozart's variations which I'm currently working on, along with Sonatinas.

      Best wishes to you all.

Has anyone tried playing Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum one handed?  I think it's doable.
