Title: Reading
Post by: presto agitato on November 24, 2005, 05:13:41 AM
Liszt read Shakespeare and Goethe (among other authors) while practising.

Henselt reportedly read the Bible while practising exercises, which he did for up to sixteen hours a day - when he got to the end, he would simply go back to the beginning and start all over again.

Saint-Saens did his piano practice while reading the daily newspapers!

Hmmm, I agree those anecdotes are familiar. However, we are now told "focused" practice is the thing, and mere mindless repetition is largely useless.

So, were those guys simultaneously focussed on reading the papers while also doing their scales....  ???  :D
