Title: Waltz, anyone?
Post by: burstroman on November 29, 2005, 10:37:52 PM
It's probably not my favorite "genre" of piano music, but what might be some of your favorite waltzes?  This could include arrangements, transcriptions, etc.  I like Liszt's "Soirees de Vienne".  Too bad some of the six are so little known.

Waltz transcriptions happen to be my favourite genre.

To note a few

Strauss-Godowsky-Artists Life
Strauss-Tausig-Man Lebt Nur Einmal
Strauss-Dohnanyi-Schatzwaltzer
Strauss-Friedman-Fruhlingsstimmen
Strauss-Grunfeld-Emporers Waltz
Tchaikovsky-Grainger-Flower Waltz
Tchaikovsky-Pabst-Sleeping Beauty  (working on this at the moment)
Weber-Tausig-Invitation to the Waltz (completed)

I could go on all night. I just love them.

If there is a chance of a good Strauss Transcription, I will be there.

I play Strauss Waltzes regularly at my hotel gig. My favorite is Vienna Blood, followed closely by Artist's Life.
