Title: Daquin - Le Coucou
Post by: chadefa1 on November 30, 2005, 12:32:34 AM
Dear all,

I hear divergent opinions on the difficulty of Le Coucou. From a search, I got both grade 2 and grade 6/7, without further explanation.
So my question is: would this piece be appropriate for a beginner like me. So far, I have played  (in order) Burgmuller's Candeur, Bach's BWV 114-115, BWV 939 (prelude in C major) and BWV 926 (little prelude in C minor).

I do not want to tackle anything that is significantly harder than BWV 926. I can play it fairly well now, but I just feel like consolidating the level that I reached, not going much further yet.

Thank you so much for your help!
Thomas

Le Coucou might be a little bit of a stretch, but you can always put it aside until later if it's too much right now. Le Coucou won' be going anywhere, it will still be there when you're ready for it. I say, give it a shot if you really like it!  :D

Greetings.

What a marvelous piece it is. I am currently playing it and it is going quite well, however it still has some tricky places. Perseverence and alot of repetition is the key to perfecting this piece in my opinion. Crisp execution of the sixteenth notes and a light staccato of the"coo-cooo" eight notes are very important. It takes alot of practice. I devided this piece into several sections according to the key. A flexible and relaxed touch, never loosing the crisp and should be right. Don't force the notes, but make sure the sound is even and slightly emphasized on the descended interval. Make sure that the wrist is rotating and the notes are exact. Im my opinion you could manage to play it however patience is the key.  :)

Best Wishes to all.

Thank you all! I get the sense that it might be a bit too difficult for now, so I might just as well wait at least a few more months. As you said, there is no hurry and I want to do things the right way, ie not rush into something that I won't be able to give justice to...

Thank you again!

In canada it's grade 9 rcm, which is same level as P/F C minor bk1, and it's about as difficult (might be slightly easier)
