Title: Certificates
Post by: amirawad on September 14, 2003, 10:27:47 PM
Hello , I'm 21 years old . I have studied in the ROyal School of music and got Grade 8 in Piano  . Also I got the Performance Certificate from Trinity College. Is this Certificate is equivilant to DipABRSM ? Is there  any advantage to get the DipABRSM ?
Can I work in any place as teacher ? or Performer or Accompainist by this Certificate ?
Thank you

Hi , amirawad, a grade 8 and a Performance Certificate will not carry you far in music field. It will at most get you a job as an overwork music teacher in a music school such as Yamaha Music School.

A performance certificate from trinity is obsolete, and generally trinity certificates are regarded as lower in prestige and standard to ABRSM's. I asked some music teachers about this and they reflect same sentiment too. DipABRSM are definitely much better than ATCL or performer's certificate and it will do you good in long run. If you are thinking of performing as a career, you will need to win competitions , which are mostly swarmed with conservatory graduates , unless you are thinkin of lounge pianists. For accompaniment jobs, you must have extremely good sight reading skills, normally people will have LRSM level before doing accompaniment seriously.
