im just wondering what else people play- i play the flute. If so, which do you prefer? i prefer playing the flute in orchestras but playing the piano for solo purposes.
-
I play the euphonium in brass band(s) :)
-
I play a 5 string banjo. Just love bluegrass.
Much happier music than the piano can produce.
-
i play the Jew's Harp... or did do for two minutes then gave up... it doesn't make any sound whatsoever... and i also play the kazoo...

Besides piano, I play bass trombone, sing (bass), and play organ.
The manliest instrument has to be the organ. :D

Does the banjo do sad? Actually I'm only half joking. Any grim dark banjo music would be a must hear.
I play the guitar, or used to. Classical, Guitar Craft stuff, some electric. I switched because among other things, pieces with massive rapid chords only really work on the piano.
-
Oh, I play violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, guitar, trombone, trumpet, saxophone, harp, harpsichord, organ, musical saw, percussion, recorder, piccolo and harmonica, and on each of these instruments I can play the equivalent of at least grade 6 level. ;D
I wish. I only know piano. :( Though I might learn violin later.
-
Flute and Percussion, especially melodical percussion ofcourse ;)
-
wow, I'd love to play the banjo. I love bluegrass too. I only play the clarinet other than piano. guitar and violin would be nice to learn too. string instruments are so hard, though. They hurt my fingers.
-
Piano, classical guitar and violin - none of them well of course. =) How's life in general anyway?

Define "play an instrument." In addition to piano (and other keyboards) I certainly play the guitar and harmonica. Lots of other instruments I can pick up and play WITH and make people THINK I can play them. I can handle a recorder, or anything else that toodles (I've been enjoying the Caledonian Chanter lately), and do SOMETHING with just about anything you put in my hands.

Are you asking me ? Otherwise I have no idea what the connection is between your post and my post (but you quoted me ??? ). So, if you want some kind of answer from me, maybe you could explain a little more ? :)

No, sorry. I quoted you by mistake - it was the post that I hit "reply" on.
But really - when people say "how many instruments do you play" I don't know how to answer it, because I don't know what it means. I don't know how proficient one has to be on an instrument before one can say that he "plays" it.

Well, I think it is pretty subjective. Anybody can say that they 'play' an instrument even if they only play one note (or whatever) but each individual has their own standard on what that really means to them.
Personally, I would only tell somebody I actually play an instrument if I play it well enough to allow anybody to hear me play it. And these days, I would tell most people I play an instrument if I feel I do this well enough to be *hired* to play it.
I also play the organ, but I wouldn't necessarily want anybody asking me to play for them, and I wouldn't necessarily want anybody trying to hire me to play it (however, it might happen). These are just my personal thoughts and feelings about this, of course.

Well, actually now I know how to play guitar a bit now. I can play the 1st part of Ode to Joy, Mexican Hat Dance (Though it sounds different than what you are probably thinking of), Hot Cross Buns And a short 10-bar song I composed myself. It has a simple chord progression for the harmony between A minor and the 2nd position of E major (G#, B D).
I would have made the harmony more complex if my partner had been a better guitarist. (it was for a school project) The song in in A minor and the time signature in 6/8. I don't really have a name for it but I guess I'll call it Andantino Cantabile since that's what I chose for the tempo marking.

One thing I really hate is when people say they can play the flute and the trumpet and the french horn and the piano when all they can do is blow one song off the flute that the band learned in 7th grade and can "play" the piano because she can playtwinkle twinlke little star. ARRGGGHH!!! YOU CAN'T PLAY THE PIANO DAMMIT!!!!
Anyways... in the case above, since I've blown on an oboe, I can play that, and because I can play a g-major scale on the clarinet, I can play that, and because I've blown in a trumpet, french horn, trombone and tuba, I can play all of those...
In reality, I can play piano, alto sax and bari sax.
Sorry about the spaz I can't stand peope saying they can play piano just because they can plug out some simple tune due to trial and error.....

Well my only real instrument is piano, but I have 2 piano lessons a week, one AMEB normal piano, and one jazz piano, and I also play piano/keyboard in several rock and jazz bands and I have accompaiment experiance, I also sing (tenor) I am in both my schools full and chamber choir and I compose. I have won awards at school for my compositions. and I'm 15...
-
Piano and Opera singing are my main studies (both first studies) but i have also grown up with the violin and i can also play the Bugle.
-
Flute, a little organ, guitar (in the key of G), and piano. I believe that you can go anywhere musically from the piano. It comes first, last, and in the middle!

too true, once you know the piano, you're pretty much halfway to learning any instrument.
NEXT: Harp, or violin, not sure which...

I, at one time, was a pretty decent French Horn player, but grew tired of it after 25 years and no "real" local groups to play it with.
Played Piano for 2-1/2 years as a child, and am now getting back into it. Its almost like I never stopped playing, I can still play the stuff I did as a child, just as well. But getting better with that bass clef...
And I'm known to be quite good at playing finger cymbals ("Zills") whilst dancing!
