Title: Repotoire Suggestion (Bernhard's show time!)
Post by: invictus on February 25, 2006, 01:35:26 PM
Ok I am ABRSM grade 8 after half an year and i think i have gone into ATCL

So i need some pieces for my taste

Last few pieces were:

Beethoven: Sonata Op2 no1
                   Sonata Op10 no1

Rimsky Karsakov - FLight of the bumble bee arr. rach

Moszkowski - Etude Virtuositie (sp, :P) no 6 in f major (still working up to speed, almost there!)

Rachmaninoff - Prelude in C# minor and the one in G minor

Joplin - Maple leaf rag

Here are the pieces that i want to play

Perferably 20th Century (some late romantic like liszt is acceptable)
VIOLENT
FAST
BASHING!!!
Show off

must fulfill all of above criterias!

Thanks

Liszt - Grand Galop Chromatique (this is just crazy)
Liszt - La Campanella (famousfamousfamousfamousfamous)
Liszt - Mephisto Waltz No.1 (all round fun - but difficult - piece)
Liszt - Mazzeppa (lots jumping)
Chopin - Etude 10/4, 10/12 and 25/11 (most famous of the etudes)
Scriabin - Etude Op.8 No.12 (recently saw a video of Kissin playing it, very bashy)
Mendelssohn - Variations Serieuexes (quite long, but wonderful piece and has some speedy parts)
Any Horowitz transcriptions (Hung Rhaps No.2, Rukovsky March, Carmen Variations etc etc)

I think Mephisto Waltz would be a fun one, as it has it's crazy moments and it's nice moments.

Danzas Argentinas/Ginastera
Allegro Barbaro/Bartok
Four Pieces op.4/Profofiev
Sarcasms op.17/Prokofiev
Visions Fugitives (the loud and fast ones  ;D )/Prokofiev
Toccata/Poulenc
Toccata/Khachaturian

These correspond with your present rep level, some are a little harder but hey you have to get there sometime!  :)

Thank you guys for your input

The mephisto seems very fun, but a bit out of my reach, i think
La Campanella!? next time don't take alcohol!  :P

Yes, allegro barbaro, funfunfun

I am thinking about Suggestion Diabolique by Prok (funfunfun)

Any more? I need more brainstorming, it just seems that my small brain can't think of that much music!

What I can think of right now...

Balakirev   Islamey
Bartok        Roumanian Dances, 8a-- I & II
Chopin       Op.10, #4
Chopin       Op.25, #11, Op.25, #10, Op.25, #12
Debussy     Preludes, Book I, No.7 Ce qu'à vu le vent d'ouest
Prokofiev   Sonata No.3
Dohnanyi    Most of the Rhapsodies (they aren't too violent though--but showy.)
Rach          Some of the Etude Tableauxs
Liszt          Ab Irato
Liszt         Transcendental Etude #8, Wilde Jagd
Liszt         Hungarian Rhapsody #15, Rakozcy March

For your level I'd recommend...
Bartok (I)
Debussy
Dohnanyi

but I think Suggestion Diabolique is a pretty good choice already.

I think you could play La Campanella. It would take some time yes, but from the pieces you know already (which many my friend knows. He can play La Campanella) I think you can do it.

Prokofiev Toccata, Bartok Allegro Barbaro or Ginastera Danzas Argentinas would be perfect.

Can somebody please provide the sheet music for Ginastera Danzas Argentinas? Thanks

Wow!, La campanella, fun, its one of my fav pieces, because it has no boring bits and mood swings like chopin (i hate em) and the song keeps me listening, especially Li Yundi, despite his cluster of wrong notes at the end

Islamey!?!?!?!?!?

Hmm, never knew i was really that good already, maybe its just my mindset some songs are really difficult

ahem, not really, just now i was revising a post by somebody criticizing them for calling Islamey a song, then it got stuck in my head for the whole day

I would like to learn the song piece

Well any more suggestions?

Here are my options

Proky - Suggestion Diabolique
Prok Sonata no 3 or 5
Bartok - Allegro Barbaro
Scribby - Sonata 5

I've recently started La Campanella, I did an ATCL about a year ago... its  tough, but really addictive... so I'd reccomend that if you don't mind a big challenge... requires lightness as well, which your post didn't seem to want lol

Suggestion diabolique came into my head also when first seeing the question.. i'd vote for that ;D
