Title: Mozart trills

I am having some confusion in the first movement of Mozart's sonata K.330. I don't know whether trills should begin on the upper note or the lower note. For example, if it is written tr. over C, should i play the trill like CDCDCD or DCDCDC ??

And is it like one rule for all trills or it may differ according to the context of the music ??

Play it DCD...... ie top note, i like to use my 3rd finger on the D and my thumb on C.  8)

yeah zheers right, it sounds better to start on the top one, D. btw is this the one for grade 8?

To me Mozart and Beethoven use the trill in different ways, Mozart (generaly) uses it for the high points in a piece. Where as Beethoven uses it to lead in to the next passage, as though it is just a tool, what I mean is Mozart views the trill as a more important and devine aspect  of a phrase, and Beethoven gathers energy with it. I proberbly don't make any sence here lol :)

But you usualy begin on the note above when starting a trill :)

yes i did play it the only trills i can remember are those really hard fast ones on the last page!! only just got those in the end luckily i got 25/30 which i was happy with.
 but i think if its just a normal trill, not a turn or anything, start on the upper note. i think it changes with what style of piece you do, like romantic or classical, but yeah start on the upper note. good luck!
