Title: Is there ANYTHING good on TV?
Post by: Bob on May 01, 2006, 10:42:14 PM
Good music stuff of course.  But good shows for entertainment too.

When I do flip through the channels, I don't see a whole lot that looks worthwhile.  So, of course, I think, "Why not go spend some time on the Piano Street website."  8)

There's never anything good on TV. All they ever seem to show show are reality TV, soaps, football and DIY programmes, all of which I despise, and the news, which is just vaguely depressing. They should just put Lost on 24/7. Then I'd be able to ogle Sawyer without any unnecessary interruptions. :)

Besides Adult Swim?

Nope....

Television is the mind control box of America (and related developed nations). I can tell you what's on Fox news tonight. A woman was murdered in Chicago. Drinking orange juice may help fight cancer. A dog was rescued from a fire. Sports. That is all.

CLASSIC fm TV. It's a little repetitive but in many of the clips they show close-ups of the performers hands whilst playing piano. I like watching/studying their technique.

Nova
Football
Frontline

In general I'm glad TV is so bad; less to distract me from practicing.  I don't even bother with cable.

"Doctor Who" and "Friday Night with Jonathon Ross" is all i watch,

rest of the time it's BBC radio 3, better than TV anytime. Plus I'm loving Barenboim: Reith lectures and the "Counterpoint" music quiz show on BBC radio 4 at the moment.

No, there is NOTHING good on TV. Except sports, and even THEN you have to sit through five million hours of commercials to watch a 2 hour tennis match...  ::)

I don't have the patience to watch TV. :P

Madonna doesn't allow her children to watch TV cos she says its trash

I totally agree with Madonna.

I own a TV, but I don't have an antenna or cable for it.  I use it solely for videos.  I watch mostly documentary and edcational videos.  But I also watch good movies.  Usually human interest stories there were designed from real life true stories, like "A Beautiful Mind", or "A First Sight", things along that line.

I also enjoy some fantasies, sci-fi, and romance movies.  I'm not really into action films, slap-stick comedy, horror, or most things that TV is famous for.

This news is totally uncessary to watch.  I know what's going on out there.  I don't  need to have it shoved in my face daily.  That doesn't change the fact that it will continue to be like that tomorrow so what's the point in watching it?  I get my news from NPR radio.  So far it's been a pretty accurate report of how sick the world is.  What more do I need to know about it?  Like I say, I'm not in a position to do anything about it anyway except vote, but I would never vote based on what I see on the news anyway.   I perfer to get my political facts straight from the horse's mouths.

So, in short, no TV for me.  It's a total waste of the human spirit.

i feel like house is the same thing every episode. they can't find out whats wrong with the person, then go to the white board, then the patient has some dramatic outburst and then they find a cure just in time.

I own a TV, but I don't have an antenna or cable for it. I use it solely for videos.

We don't have a TV at all. We could watch DVDs on the computer, I suppose, but we don't.

Therefore we don't need a television licence, but it can sometimes be difficult persuading the authorities of this. It is one of the few circumstances in the UK in which you are assumed guilty until proven innocent. You have to notify them that you don't watch television, and if you fail to do so, they can get a magistrate's warrant to enter your premises forcibly.

Leucippus, if you lived in the UK, you would also not need a TV licence, as long as you could demonstrate that your TV was never used for receiving broadcast programmes. They probably base their acceptance of any such statements on the apparent eccentricity of the person making it. You'd be OK as a classical musician - we're all weird.  ;D

forcibly enter your home for being accused of not having a television license?  that is another example of surveillance import.  why is this so important?  i don't understand at all.

changing the subject slightly, we declined to have DSL service (high speed internet service) even though they claimed the telephone company had to run cables in our front yard and install a box.  our driveway was cracked across the entire entry point (and they did come and fix it after i called).  seems that they assumed everyone in the neighborhood would want it (for a fee) - but did not realize until after the fact that they were servicing only two or three people in the entire neighborhood.  apparrently they think that in the future it will be in high demand.

we were notified that they would be digging and asked permission - as if we could really say ' no.'  my parents are going through a similar thing in alaska with the lines running behind their home needing more accessibility .  so they try to take more land for 'public right of way' or whatever they call it.  not sure how this went down at the council meeting.  in alaska - people really complain about infringement of rights.

cash cab
world news on npr
nova
divine design (interior design)
occasional gardening shows
used to watch oprah - but have since tired of it.
one interior design show that pits three designers against each other (forget the name of it).
