Title: Cell phones
Post by: lisztisforkids on July 13, 2006, 11:33:45 PM
I hate them..Every young person these days seems like there either constantly talking or texting on them leading to the dumbing down of language.. What did people use to do without these things? Someday I am going to buy a cell phone jammer, and ill haev so much fun..

the only real use i have for my cell phone is to call when i have an emergency.  otherwise - i feel like it is a real danger to driving.  people think they can easily do two things at once - but you see people halfway through an intersection that actually just stop and sit there for a moment.  they suddenly realize they're supposed to be driving and then go.  or, the person that motions for you to go - and then hits you.  i don't think people should talk and drive.  i think it is against the law to use them in new jersey while driving.  here in pennsylvania it should be too because our roads are way narrower.

Like every other new technology, there are many who abuse it.  But I believe the benefits outweigh the social fo-pahs.  I myself did not have a cell phone until three months ago, but it has been extremely useful to me, moreso, I think, in an urban setting in which there are many things going on that you have to coordinate and less time to do so.  For example, when you're at a big festival and you're trying to find some friends; or, when you're trying to figure out who can give you a lift somewhere.

As for texting... I don't think it will ever be able to replace normal conversation.  It's too slow and awkward.  And those of us who have jobs use conventional grammar in writing reports and such (hopefully).  I'll admit, I do instant messaging, but I'd rather hear a voice any day.

I agree.I have not used mine for months now as I got sick of people ringing me 24/7...
                  And I don't miss it

Obviously there are uses for mobile phones for business and productive calls but everyone seems to spend all ther lives/ money on talking crap------Just get on a train and see if you can go the journey without having to listen to someone elses CRAP about CRAP :)

i like my phone as a means of sorting out where on earth everybody is when you're meeting them, or you're lost. or making your dad keep one in the car so when you walk home without knowing he's picking you up from the station he can call and ask where the hell you are instead of sitting in the car for 30 minutes and then drive home to find you already there (happened to me last week woops!) can't say i'm a compulsive mobile phone user, i don't like having long conversations on them cos i can never understand the person, tend to use my home phone for that. and smsing for quick questions to friends
