Title: My new neighbours
Post by: Kassaa on July 15, 2006, 05:52:30 PM
are barbecueing, while I am sitting in my room listening to the last movement of the ninth symphony of Beethoven, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. I have turned the volume way up, because the smell of the barbecue goes directly into my open window.

My neighbours have been been doing things to fix their house with (https://www.dus-rotterdam.nl/images/107%20Boormachine.jpg) which makes a lot of noise. They always do that between 21.00 and 22.00 pm.

Am I nice or not?

What a useless topic this is. I actually feel guilty for opening it.

I'm kinda in the same position. I live in Holland too and most of my neighbours are barbecueing too. The smell is annoying and the people listen to irritating music (rap and r&b).

If I were you, I would choose something different than piano music. Choose something that makes a lot more noise.  ;)

What do you think the ninth symphony of Beethoven is 8)

Stockhausen at full volume?  Maybe rent some 1000 watt speakers and soundsystem to play it through.

Get the people from Stomp to perform in your backyard, and borrow your neighbours trash cans for instruments.

Every party needs a party pooper.........

Come on guys.  They have as much right to barbeque as we do to play loud music.  Let's all just get along. :)

yes.  i'm confused.  if i were you , i'd go outside and ask for a plate.  maybe pretend to help them drill for a while.  when u have the neighbors on ur side - then when u leave on vacation, they will take care of ur stuff well and feed the cat.  maybe u don't have cat.  in any case...

what's this about beethoven's 9th used as a weapon?  i guess if everyone used classical music as a weapon (esp. herbert von karajan's version) - they wouldn't get the other side more than mildly angry.  i mean...music usually calms the savage beast in people.

the only time i almost had neighbors at the door was good practice session that accidentally went until midnight.  i used to have a clock on the piano - but it has since vanished.  i just was having a good time and then realized the neighborhood had pretty much gone to bed.  they do this at 8 pm actually because most have small children - but i only do this on holidays or around holidays.  usually i practice during the day.

Hey, it isn't a weapon only, I also enjoyed listening. They're new neighbours, just came here, I don't even know their names. But they often use that drill machine thing between 21.00 and 22.00 pm which is sheeyaat because my 10-year old brother can't sleep anymore. So I thought I'd make their barbecue a little bit better 8) .

ok, the drill is understandable but i think you are being a tad too harsh about the barbeque. its summer, people like to eat BBQs outside, and what about the smell lmao, i love the smell of BBQ.

Gruff

the drill thing'd piss me off, my neighbours' kids like to play basketball at like 10pm and i'm like for the love of god it's a school night go to bed! i'd do atonal opera, opera can drive some people nuts, or get your brother saxophone lessons and make him practice 2hrs every day as badly as he possibly can.

My immediate neighbour is always drilling, sawing and hammering, and many of my neighbours have parties and barbecues. They don't bother me. I play my piano flat out at all hours. It is scarcely audible from any of the neighbours' houses, even if they stand outside. I asked them all if it bothered them and they were surprised I played the piano because they had never heard anything. However, years ago, when I lived with my parents all the neighbours used to remark about my playing (fortunately they liked it). I think it's something to do with bricks. A brick house shuts in the noise much more than a wooden one.
