Title: Anyone happen to have mp3 for Liszt-Wagner "Liebestod" transcription?
Post by: yooniefied on July 20, 2006, 05:37:19 PM
From Tristan und Isolde.

The nearby Music Library didn't have a recording, nor could I find one on the internet.

Any help would be much appreciated - I am dying to hear this piece, after all the wonderful comments it has been given.

Wonderful piece in its original operatic form and in the piano transcription. Moskowsky also have a  great transcription. There is a nice rendition in the Audition room. Here is the link

Moskowsky also have a  great transcription.

I submit that is better than the Liszt.

Check out the Earl Wild recording on his "Art of Transcription" disk, if you ever come across it.

I have to respectfully disagree. The Moszkowski transcription, in my opinion, veers towards kitsch at several points due to him overegging the harmonic pudding, and I find the arpeggiated figuration from 7.05 to 7.20 to be downright tasteless. It's certainly worth hearing as an alternative to the Liszt version (and Earl Wild's playing is quite excellent), but I think the Liszt is considerably better.

I like both, but find that Listz's is more graphic, specially the shakes in the climax.
