yikes. i can't even imagine it.
somewhere in the bible it says to put on the helmet of salvation - so i put that on to protect my head. sometimes we are tempted to worry about what we look like - but in the long run it doesn't matter. i mean - it's great to look nice for as long as you can - but can you imagine how it will be when God x-rays us. not for bones. for good behavior. there's something about being clothed with good works, righteousness, etc. and, the sword of His word. the earth existed because He spoke it into existence. that's a lot of power. even when we repeat His word - the smallest ones - they are powerful. why else would He say to satan 'get behind me...'
ok. sermon done. (*primps) it's hard not to care what you look lik e- but i think if it's way down on the list - then you're not making it 'who you are' but maybe just a statement of style or lack of it. i'm gradually coming into a style - but i can't really explain it. sort of half modern/ half old fashioned. i always think of a church that i belonged to before that warned about looking like jezebel. so if i overdo the eyeliner - i'm thinking- ok. don't want the daughters to pick up too much slutty look and take some off. i don't think it's bad to look good - but i think it's bad to be in bad taste.

Greetings.
Looks like some of you are very aware of the specific traits of clothes such as their brands. I for one do not care even the slightest bit about what my clothes are as long as they fulfill the basic needs of clothing and an amiable appearance. I think that it is very superficial of so many people to look for splendid clothes that "fit" them, whether sumptous or otherwise. An otherwise attractive appearance is used to attract mates, a factor in reproduction and animal behavior. Clothes however do reveal one thing. Humans are very quick to rely on fallacious advertising and display to get what they want, in this case mates. This makes me believe that humans are naturally not attractive and must use disguise to let themselves be heard.
-
so if thal's nightie is too small for him - that's ok. guess if he's now wearing nothing - he doesn't have to worry about fit.
do you ever wonder what kind of idiot came up with thongs. obviously they never wore one.

If you're talking about slavish fashion-following then I agree, it completely takes away peoples' individuality. But there's nothing wrong with finding clothes that suit you. If we "have" to wear clothes, why not wear ones that make you feel good? And there's definitely nothing wrong with finding ones that fit. It's better than flapping around in clothes two sizes too big! :)

Yes, that is what I am saying. I get this uneasy twinge when I see young people spending a huge investment of money and countless hours choosing their clothes, for whatever occasion or just casual. When I talk to a person I listen to their intonation and their meaning behind words, not their fanciful dresses. I am truly and positively disgusted at the way some people dress up when going to opera. I see some superficial for the eye women wearing what clearly is a super expensive dress with a ton of jewerly sprinkled upon it. Ohhh, you showed us, the casual dressers what it feels like to be rich, whilst possibly being baren on the inside(just assuming of course so no offense).

That reminds me - I remember reading this in the gospel according to Matthew (chapter 6) recently, i think it's very true:
25"...do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?..."
28" And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?..."
It amazes me how old the Bible is but it is still so relevant to modern life.

this reminds me of a pbs documentary (no, not again) of one of the queens of britan (victoria?) - anyway - she was not content to wear one or two items of jewelry and often tried to get all the crown jewels on at once. it must have been a heavy burden. wonder if she could stand up? she was a rather plain woman - so maybe she was trying to make up for it with jewelry.
i think for many women - we go through phases. until you get some diamonds - you're just not satisfied. once my husband bought me some diamond stud earrings - i thought - ok - i'm satisfied. (i never take them out except to clean them and put them back in). then - for our anniversary he gets me a GREEN necklace. i ahve no idea what the gem is called, but it was light green. a hideous green. i pretended that i loved it because there were some small diamonds around it - but i waited for a year (until he'd forget) - kept the receipt - and hoping he'd never ask - exchanged it when they were having a huge sale on diamonds for a pure diamond necklace. i love the colors in good diamonds. anyways - then i go and break my leg and my mom comes down and works her head off fixing meals and doing stuff for the kids - and i couldn't get up to do anything or help her - so - i gave her the necklace. on some days i read the bible and see that our treasure is in heaven anyway. other days i want to call and say 'can i have that necklace back when you stop wearing it.' but that wouldn't be polite - so - someday a necklace.
ok. guys - diamonds ARE a girls best friend. but, thinking about the message above that was just posted - Jesus Christ is our best friend because there are also verses in the bible that speak of the heavenly jerusalem whose walls are made of precious stones and jewels (and streets, too). i think there's a crown mentioned in there, too. can you imagine - all of us crowned like miss america with a really valuable crown. maybe my hopes are too high when i'm assigned doorkeeping - but i think i'll ask for a crown and some jewels for that job.

That's an interesting approach to understanding life, with everyone getting the same rewards upon death. In your opinion everyone deserves a golden crown? Even those who did nothing to deserve it? In my opinion, the only real thing in life that will save a man is intellect and artistry, that is it. I am not judging your beliefs so don't get offended. Please expatiate on your belief system about remuneration for a "good" life pianistimo.

where's my bible. i lost it in a maze of house activity. but, if i remember right - there is mention of crowns - but they will have different amounts of jewels (don't start laughing, ok, i'm trying to remember the details). just like with matthew - we may be over 1 city or 10 cities according to what we did with our talents. the 'kingdom' of heaven is exactly that. a 'kingdom.' what would a kingdom be without some crowns. if mine doesn't have the jewels that i want in it - i'll gladly work for them. somehow - i get this impression that God requires work out of us to get things. and, yet, things are not as important as love. i have a feeling occasionally we'll throw our crowns at God's feet - but i'll be watching mine so i can get it back, too, and add more jewels to it. sounds hilarious to you, maybe, but for me - and many others - we don't receive in this life all the things we dream. not even artistry and intellect. and yet, God says he will give us wisdom - so i wait for that ultimate knowledge that 'passes all understanding.' and, i feel if i use my talents now wisely, i won't be the dumb * that people might think i am now. what this world values is visible signs of intellect - but not necesarrily the 'things of God.' but, when we stand up for God - we are given more. like Solomon. he wasn't born wise - he was given wisdom as an answer to prayer. he would pray for answers and get them. daniel was able to interpret dreams by God's divine responses to him. we are able to channel tremendous power through the Holy Spirit. but, it is not a magical power that leads nowhere - but a spiritual power greater than any imagined. it is the source of the creation. God himself. His own mind. i think it teaches us how to love.
there have been times when i have been very confused as to what to do about something - or an answer to a problem. then, if i pray about it - either a solution occurs or i think of something that i'd forgotten or feel inspired to do or say something and the timing ends up being right. i don't attribute this success to myself (as i consider myself sometimes kinda stupid) but to God. for things that i don't pray about - they don't always turn out so well. sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. more a matter of chance. i feel that humans in general do not have the ability to choose 'life' and often choose 'death.' we don't realize a choice might lead to death -because satan is sneaky. he makes a choice seem right until we're so far down the path that it's difficult to turn around and go a better direction.
the proverbs always direct people to 'wisdom' - and that can also be gained through education and the help of other people. this also requires humility - because you have to listen and do what someone else is telling you - or you research something with the help of someone else. i was watching a show last night on this guy who sculputures with marble and is similar to michelangelo in his skills. he said it is basically impossible to learn this trade without a mentor to guide you through the various processes. that youcould try to learn on your own - but it would take many lifetimes without a skilled person to learn from. he himself has had one famous sculptor in particular - help him.
i try to meld my entire life's wisdom together with God and eliminate pieces that don't fit. it's like a sculpture in the sense that we are becoming a 'new creation.' we might have been born with a handicap or something about us that is not perfect - but with Christ we are 'born again' into a place where handicaps and problems do not matter. in this life - perfection is what we see. in the next life - perfection is probably all about being humble and accepting Christ as our intercessor and lover. not in a sexual sense - but in a spiritual sense. if he is our spiritual lover - we will have no other.

Beautifully said Pianistimo.....oh yeah I'm just relaxing in my living room, wearing pink lounge capris and white t-shirt. ;D ;D ;D

Pianistimo, you are not stupid in any means. You are very articulate. I wish I could express myself the way you do. Of course, any human's intelligence pales in comparison to our God, but that's why He is God, and we aren't. Good post.

I really admire you pianistimo for your outward devotion to God. Not many people have the energy to spend the time addressing the Bible. However, what I want to know is, if there was some sort of emendation of the Bible text that clearly didn't agree with your psyche, would you react the same way? You know what I am getting at. If some parts were of spurious origin, the whole book might have been written to "guide" humanity in a direction proposed by some entity, whether God or anyone else. God was perceived to be someone who came from the sky, and had immense power. Wouldn't it make sense naturally that whoever was visiting Earth came with a purpose, tractable and benevolent, or malicious. People obviously looked up to the powerful entities and of course might have received the holy word, in this case, a book that guides people. I am not saying that is what happened, I am just saying that if someone wrote the book in accordance to their will, it could really inveigle your moral beliefs, and you would do things that may seem unmoral to you. In accordance to Shakespeare, "There is neither good nor bad. Our mind makes it so."(maybe not exact words, but the meaning implied). I am not discouraging you, I am jus saying that perhaps and important thing is to also judge by yourself(not saying you don't). If you see something as not fit for you and you know you are right, spend some time on the issue, getting to know the consequence and other side effects. This statement above in no way is written against you pianistimo.

I really have no idea what kind of clothes you are describing as I have no expertise at all in that area. I wonder how much money is spent on those useless fashion shows with the models waltzing their way in and out, "showing off their amiable appearance". That time could be spend doing something usefull like reading a book.

i just saw your message tonight, debussy symbolism. i think penguinlover said it well (i think it was her message) that the bible is still relevant today. many people think that because it was written so long ago and in different contexts culturally that it is irrelevant. but, if you believe it was divinely inspired and written with the help of the Holy Spirit through various men and prophets - then you say - ok. God's word is the same 'yesterday, today, and forever...' 'written for doctrine, reproof, and instruction in righteousness.' we just can't go around saying 'this is righteous and this is not.' then, we would be playing God. so what if we disagree with God at first. obedience by sufferring was required of all Christians throughout the ages. otherwise, what would have been the sufferring if it was always easy to do what God said.
another way of looking at it, though, is to realize that the most difficult things that God asks us to do (as well as the easy) come with blessings at the time and afterwards. the blessings would be that close communication with God. He only turns away for a time if we sin. but, His heart is always towards us (just as with children). we might sin - and we might get the consequences but He doesn't heap them on us forever. satan, on the other hand, is always looking for our mistakes and doesn't want to let us forget them. i always think when i hear something negative - that i should not be bothered by it. after all, if God is a righteous judge and He listens and accepts me - whatever a person says is not that important. all people will die once. what is important is running a race.
the race i refer to is life. everyone runs it differently. some are aiming only at what they can achieve in this life. fame, fortune, whatever. Christians, once they give up all this, are actually given many blessings in this life and the next. we are told that we cannot outgive God. so if you give away everything you have to the poor or spend time with people - you are rewarded now AND later. He sometimes gives you everything your heart desires. i remember wanting children so badly. we went four years into our marriage and i still had no children. i thought - ok. this is a test, just like with sarah (abraham's wife) - to see if i will still love God even though i can't understand why i can't conceive. i prayed to God similarly saying that if he would let me get pregnant - to let me have a son and that He would help me teach him about Himself. sure enough about nine months later, i had a baby boy and i enjoyed him so much. i thought that it was a sort of one time blessing and that would be the only child i would ever have (thus he thought so too!) he was and still is a really great kid. but, i had two more daughters. my children are the biggest blessing that i could ever hope for in this life (besides my husband) and knowing that God loves me. piano is second, and even in that - i feel very blessed. i was not able to choose my teacher at wcu - and yet i was given a really gifted teacher for 3 semesters of piano lessons. it seemed like God allowed me to have a dream that wasn't even something that i 'deserved' so to speak from immense talent or anything. it was definately a blessing.
i look at life and piano through a different lense today. yes, i want a piano career. but, my dreams are always followed with a qualifier. if it is God's will. whatever is His will is good for me. He's never made my life miserable (or allowed it to be beyond what i can handle). i've gone through hard times - but with His help it was easy when i look back. what can be really much more difficult is giving up on God. then, the trials are enormous. and you have no eternal help. being cut off from God is worse than being dead. basically you are dead (spirituallY) and you have noone to turn to or pray to for help. i think if drug addicts and people who have severe depression turned to God - they would find 'help in time of need.' they would not feel depressed because they would see the hope that God gives. God is not like any physical person. he is not as judging as we see Him. he is merciful and forgives. he doesn't remember sin if we repent. in fact, He throws ours sins as far as east is from the west. that's a fur piece.
i feel actually emboldened by God's presence. when i feel His comfort, I bask in it. He is a protector to me. and a lover. but, not a lover in the sense of physical sexual love - but a reassurance of everything that i personally need to live happily. when i don't do what is right - it does make me sad if i make God sad. i don't try to purposely make Him sad. from the Bible, it seems that He is jealous because He loves us. not jealous and wreck the other person's car - but jealous for us to be righteous like Him. He cannot love evil. that is why we have to strive to do right. and, if we strive to do our best - then, He sees our love for Him and rewards us. i believe that most Christians would try to do right even if there was much less of a reward. but, God is most generous and says that 'eye has not seen - nor ear heard' the rewards that God has in store for us.
-
i think the reason one of the verses in corinthians or galatians says to put on the 'helmet of salvation' is that if you are thinking of life in the future as well as the present - the trials of life are not so bad. you have hope. also, it guards your mind. we are told that if we focus on what's ahead and not what's behind - then we will be headed in a direction that we cannot fail to obtain victory over. sort of like a soldier. if you become weary - sometimes you stop and drink water (the Holy Spirit) and it gives you more energy. if you have no Holy Spirit it is impossible to have the strength to go on. literally impossible. that's how God makes it. every person NEEDs it. it's like blood to our bodies. we can't live without it spiritually. when we die we are dead. to be ressurrected like Christ means that we accept his life and blood in our stead and that we WANT to be ressurrected like him - spiritual body and spiritual mind. having victory over death.
the baptists have always believed in water baptism. i agree with boliver that if you are not around a great large body of water - the symbolism of baptism with a clear heart and conscience is probably blessed. but, most people do live around enough water (even bathtub) to have a pastor baptize them completely - showing that they've died to sin and are risen to live with Christ now and forever. coming to know God is not enough - we have to make a sort of marriage vow that we want to be married and committed to the relationship. it lets other Christians knwo in the community that we have fully accepted Christ. without baptism - people are not reading the bible as it is written. 'except you be born again you cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.' born again is not going back into our mother's womb. it is born again of water. some say that we are physically born this way (encased in water - which breaks when we are born) - but if that is the case - why did so many become baptized when John the Baptist was preparing the way for Christ? even, after that many of the apostles baptized members into the body of Christ or the Church.

I believe the most logical way to put it is that we are born physically into the fallen human race, descended of Adam. This is inevitable. However, by entering into Christ's paschal sacrifice and resurrection (Baptism), we are anointed with the Holy Spirit in order to be born spiritually into the redeemed humanity, descended of Christ, the second Adam.
And to remain relevant to the thread, I am wearing pajamas.

well put, michael_langlois. what you wear is in your mind. that is the clothing that God sees. i think there is a verse that even says to clothe yourself with humility. i find that when i go into really fine department stores and see people dressed to the hilt - they almost seem unreachable or untouchable. then, if you go into the poorest area of town - you see people that are very human and very loveable.
not to say that dressing well is wrong. Christ himself wore good enough clothes for the roman soldiers to want to cast lots for. i'm sure he didn't walk around in warped clothing and shoes. but, one interesting thing is that he could easily lose himself in a crowd. if he could do that, he wasn't wearing a red feathered hat.
clothing makes us feel better temporarily, though. i can't say that i haven't had one of those 'feel good' shopping sprees. and, i wouldn't put them down. but, lately my eleven year old has been doing all the shopping and there's not a lot of money left afterwards. now, the little one is a clothes horse. i think it's very hard to stop once the ball gets rolling. about the only way to do it in is to join an amish farm and put everyone to work with basic clothing and little caps. noone can say 'ooh. look at me.' they all look rather hot though. (i mean temperature wise) my daughters like these tank tops - but i keep telling them 'what about SCHOOL clothes.'

I am in a way proud of you Pianistimo for your outward devotion to something. However. And this is a big however. How do YOU know that the Bible is real, or was written by a divine being. I know that the probability of this happening are very slim, but what if the Bible was written by extraterrestrials who sought the path of humans whether for our good or for theirs, hopefully of course for the good of everybody. After all, extraterrestrials visiting Earth a long time ago would be though of as divine, or God. One other possibility concerning the validity of the Bible is that it is a fake, which would leave many people in denial. How do we know where it came from? I think that this really is the beauty of the whole things. Vagueness. If we knew exactly the meaning of the Bible or it's originis, humanity would devote all religious belief onto that structure. Since we do not have that kind of information, we can only guess and choose our lifepath ourselves, living life the way fit for the eyes. That is the beauty of life: variety.

I seriously have no idea just what kind of clothes you are referring to. The different brands, styles..... just too much to keep track of in terms of clothes. I pay practically no attention to what I wear as long as it is appropriate. So much energy is devoted to picking out clothes, and to what avail? Those bracelets the girls wear, what are they for? Beauty? They are not beautifull and rather disturbing for a matter of fact. If you look at it from a historical point of view, the clothes and cosmetics that people apply to themselves today would see unacceptable by means of yesterday. Not such a while ago women who wore makeup were regarded as prostitutes. Look at the cosmetics and clothes the women wear today. The all too revealing dresses, with only a couple of threads covering the body, body piercings, cosmetic surgery, and all of that would seem unthinkable some years back. Just looking at the clothes of school children today bothers me. It is like the humans started developing clothes when mankind's first, developing cloth, carefull to not reveal any body that would seem arousing to the opposite sex. People now are taking the clothes off. It's like a big curve. Funny in a matter of way. Fashion overall is stupid.

Why does it matter who wears what? I think that this thread was just to get the post counts up, as with some threads here with a million posts. I am sure you know which one. ;)

Any girls care to explain why wearing ugg boots is so fashionable all of a sudden? The first time I saw it I was like 'alrighty then' but now it is like a plague.

They were fashionable in the US a few years ago. Don't know that they're quite so big now (the craze seemed to be dying down last winter).
Well, they're big and sheepy and come in crazy colors, and most importantly, they're hella expensive and therefore desirable. ::) So probably some celebrity started wearing them and everyone was like OMG MUST HAVE HER UBERHOT BOOTS!!!!!!!!!!!11111ONE!!!1 and thus the insanity began.
Kinda like Martha Stewart and the poncho. Go figure.

Thanks. Because here we wear them indoors only (not including teenage girls), in winter to keep warm. I thought it bizarre that they were seen as trendy. It's like going out in your pjs.

You can thank Pammie Anderson for that. She's the one who ushered in the the micro mini and ugg boots ensemble fashion tragedy.
Now every thunder-thighed, muffin-topped, fat-arsed teenage mall victim is sporting the look. Very unfortunate.
That said, I love my uggies to death.
They are great for when you're up practicing at some cold and ungodly hour of the morning but they make it very hard to pedal.

Burlap - nothng more - nothing less, just burlap. It suits me.

Is anyone here able to a certain extent explain to me the "amiable" quality of ripped up pants, which are so modestly being worn be many teens today. Ripped up jeans, with blotches of material practically torn right out, revealing the knees, legs, whatever. Is it common, or have kids started to get back into the stone age, revealing more and more body. I just don't find ripped up jeans or clothers of any such kind for that matter as appealing to even the slightest degree. What are your thoughts.

But then aren't you as Australian as they are?
