Title: Kilar's Piano Concerto
Post by: minor9th on August 26, 2006, 05:21:13 PM
Has anyone wasted their time and money on this new Naxos release? It has to be the most monotonous, mind-numbing piece of garbage that has wafted my way in a long time. Taking a non-descript "melody" and repeating it ad nauseum hardly requires talent.  I hope the pianist was well compensated!

(I've heard some of his other music and rather liked it--that's why I bought it.)

ive heard the 1st and 2nd movts so far. the 1st movt kinda reminded me of michael nyman's piano concerto, except that it didnt move as fast and it kinda revolved around the same idea too long. the second was a little better. i liked the colors of the piece. it made me seem as if i were in the clouds. it doesnt compare to nyman's concerto though.

i just heard the 3rd movement. because it is a toccata, it moved a lot quicker than the other movements did. it also was more powerful and moody, which i liked. this was the best movement of the concerto. however, on the whole, this concerto was nothing special.
