I am trying to compile a list of what people think is the single greatest classical piano recording of all time (for example Lipatti playing Alborada Del Gracioso.)
Please post your choice.
I’m hoping to then collect most of these recordings.
Thanks
(I’m Sorry if a string like this has been done before but I’m fairly new here.)

barry douglas - pictures at an exhibition (much like stokowski's rendition - a few years earlier. quite grand).
composers playing their own works:
poulenc playing poulenc, etc.
-
Leif Ove Andsnes - Liszt Dante Sonata
are you aware that you have made the exact same topic before?

I remember posting it but the next day when I went to check it I couldn't find it. I must be blind. I thought admin had deleted it by mistake!
Sorry if I wasted anybody's time second time around.
???

I see now that it was moved to Misceleneous where it is still running.

Thats Ok, accidents do happen. Besides, I haven't seen the original topic before. This thread will act as a immediate link to the real thread. ;)

Powell when he records Opus Clav
-
Lipatti playing Chopin's 3rd sonata. He has the most perfect crystalline touch!
-
Kapell playing Chopin's 3rd Sonata
Arrau playing Liszt's Waldesrauschen
-
Leif Ove Andsnes - Liszt Dante Sonata
Is this better than cziffra's live performance? just want to know because im in search of more Dante recordings, but nobody elses that i hear seem to match cziffra.

Andsnes is unmatched in all aspects of this piece. I have heard 7 different performers. no one is even close. not even cziffra.

wow, i must get this then.

Joyce Hatto's Prokofiev "War Sonatas."
-
Arrau - Brahms' Handel Variations.
-
Ashk Prokofiev's Second PC
I wouldn't consider it best of all time, but I'm debating whether it's the best Ashk recording or not.
-
Seine Grossten playing Chopin's Polonaise in A flat Major
-
Gutierrez Prokofiev's Second PC
fixed.

Joyce Hatto's Prokofiev "War Sonatas."
I need to hear Hatto's. Of the many recordings of the 6th sonata that I've heard, none satisfy me.

ok, i just got andsnes' liszt CD. his liszt is great and the Dante is brilliant. i still dont think it beats cziffra. have you heard his live one? his studio recording isnt that good, its the live one that needs to be heard.
