Title: Coolest piano you've ever played?
Post by: jjoel on February 11, 2004, 12:45:22 AM
I'm new here but I've been watching topics on this forum for a little while.

The coolest piano i've ever played was a custom steinway, I believe early 1900's.  It was a grand player piano (the type played by rachmaninoff) and it had a $238,000 price tag on it.  If i'm able to i'll post a picture of it cause it's quite the piano.

the next cool piano was a $100,000 yamaha, i believe right around 9 ft, and was sold to a concert hall somewhere on the east coast.  probably the best sounding piano i've ever played.

I've played some pretty classy Bosendorfers in Harrods, but the coolest piano would probably be the red Pininfarina designed Schimmel sitting in Parson's Music, Times Square, Hong Kong,

Definitely the best piano I've ever played is a Steinway concert grand-- great feel, beautiful tone.

The steinway model C in my school.  But only once (sneaked on it and played for 5 mins).  It was pretty good.

Hmmm, a mix of a Steinway D, a 9' Grotrian-Steinweg, some Boesendorfers, and a white piano.

In the competition that I'm competing in right now, there is a Yamaha CFIIIS 9', and it sucks.  Haven't competed on it yet, but I tried it after one class was over.  Apparently it is handcrafted. Perhaps it hasn't broken in yet.  I will see.  What I have noticed form other Yamaha 9's are that they are horrible for projection.

One cool piano was an old Heintzman.  When I pressed a key, it played a whole chord, or something like that.

So you can play Rach's Bells of Moscow with two fingers?

Coolest piano ever played?

Well, I played Mindy's Faz once, and that was pretty darned cool.

And, I think my own Bosie is über-cool, not to mention the 7'4" Swarovski crystal-studded Bosie I got to try out last fall in Vienna.

But the one that really sticks with me was a plain ol' Bosendorfer Imperial Grand on a concert stage in Lower Austria.  It was a dream to play and really filled up the hall with amazing sound.  Too bad I was the only one in the hall to hear it. ;)
