Title: R. Schumann: Arabesque op. 18
Post by: prongated on February 20, 2007, 06:00:15 AM
...had spare time in a private recording session, so I dug this out. Single take and unpractised for months, hence...><

Begging for comments, criticisms, and blurbs!

You played it quite nicely for having left it aside for a while.  Kudos!

You seem to speed up just a hair at a couple points, but agian, that might be due to not playing.  I would like to hear the bass tones more, but that's only in certain parts.  Other than that, not bad at all!  Post more!

Wow, really nice playing. I don't have any complaints about tempo, dynamics, articulation etc. All fits very well.

My complaints are against the composition.   :P

This piece is so harmless and uninteresting - I even suspect Clara having composed this piece and published it under Robert's name  8)  (not true, I'm only joking)

prongated, I am very interested in hearing you playing some other pieces, I presume, you are a quite good pianist.

very rhapsodic! or arabesquish!?  i liked how you brought out the 'line.'  just like a kite.  never stopping (excepting maybe one spot) - but if you just brought it out to replay - that's really good!  you have very many types of 'tones' that you can use at whim.

Hi prongated,

I really enjoyed your rendition of the Arabesque.  You brought a good deal of poetry to it for not having practiced it recently.   I doubt that I could just dust if off like that and play it as well.  I'm attaching my own version here (an analog recording), if you're interested in hearing it.  (The piano could have been in better tune.)  My interpretation is different, yet there are some similarities too.  Thanks for posting this piece.

Thanks! Yes, I think the speeding up thing is probably a sign of immaturity more than not having played it for quite a while. I used to quite like the way I play this piece, but ever since I noticed this very recently, it gets quite irritating ><

Thanks! Well Schumann himself said the piece (along with Blumenstucke op. 19) is "for the ladies", so...><

you have very many types of 'tones' that you can use at whim.

Thanks! Those tones are probably due to the recording equipment used [not sure what exactly, but my friend told me that his equipments are really good and that he's worth $50 an hour, so...] and the piano [Kawai RX-6] more than my voicing capabilities...

My interpretation is different, yet there are some similarities too. Thanks for posting this piece.

Thank you! Ah yes, the end is rather similar! Ah the piano's a bit flat, but your intentions are still quite clear, despite the analogue mic ^^
