For an expreso, the "Tortoni" in Buenos Aires isn't bad.
-
sounds good bustroman..what kind of restaurant is tortoni?? is it coffe shop or ristorante style?!? Ive never been to buenos aires...maybe oneday..The restaurant is noted down in my diary!!
-
do breakfast joints count? there is one here in pa that is family owned and they made it really 'cafeish' - with a lot of modern artwork and handcrafts everywhere. the service is just a slight bit slow - but worth the wait. they put interesting herbs and spices in things -and it has a definate 'bon apetite' kind of feel. the thing is - i don't think they were able to uphold the quality they had when they first opened. i think restauranteurs go into things very idealistic and come out realizing 'hey, we have to make a profit, too.'
i think for sustained good eating - one should find someone who cooks and make them come over and cook occasionally. fresh ingredients are key.
back in california - there was this hole in the wall breakfast place that had really good chorezo? anyways - steak and eggs (with a bit of cheese). we would go in there and order the eggs and milkshakes.

Tortoni is a coffee shop on the Avenida de Mayo serving nice croissants (medialunas) and sandwiches. On some evenings there is live jazz.

I am surprised that no one mentioned the famous "ZEN COFFEEHOUSE CAFE." If you want advice, I would recommend getting the 1/2 cup empty for 87 cents. ;)

Sheesh, even those guys have heard of the famous(or infamous now) ZEN COFFEEHOUSE CAFE. I even heard talk on Pluto about the cafe so yeah. :) For further guidance on the location of the cafe near you, contact Phil13. His post should be most informative...

Cafe du Monde, in New Orleans. Amazing place. The beignets are to die for. You must make a pilgrimage at least once in your life.
-
Whts the address - it'll go in my diary! ::)

Actually, my favorite place to go is the Governor's Cup here in Salem. They are renowned for their coffee, and even though I am not a coffee drinker, they still make the best cups of tea or chai ever. It's a tiny place, but it's a fantastic atmosphere for composing. :)
Phil
(P.S.~ DS, how's it infamous? Did it do something terribly evil?)
-
Is it expensive...if im traveling to salem im not sure I'll have much cash for a big splurge!
-
Yeah, I imagine you had better get about a million miles to the gallon on your vehicle, because anyplace on Earth ain't exactly across the street from Saturn. ;D
I dunno...probably $1.75 for the normal 12 oz. coffee. I usually get a 16oz. chai, which runs at $2.95, I think.

Ha ha. Interesting. ;D

whoa! saturn is much more expensive about twice that!

I was in York last weekend, and discovered this rather wonderful cafe https://www.cafeconcerto.biz/ - a friend took me there for lunch and I'm addicted! It's a musician's dream, it's literally wallpapered with sheet music, and there are instruments hanging on the walls... and the food is amazing! They do a lime and elderflower cheesecake to die for...
-
Thanks Elspeth.... I saw the chocolate cake !! Im going the next time im in York!!!!
-
It is kind of expensive - I paid about £6.50 for a pot of tea and a piece of cheescake - but it's well worth it... and you probably don't pay less in the generic coffee shops these days. And this is so much better... I mean to try the chocolate cake next time I go, which will be in the middle of May! Hurrah!
-
write a review on it for me - I think you'll beat me to it. Gosh £6.50 - i think your right its not that much these days but I remember when tea at Gleneagles cost you that and that was proper afternoon tea in front of a big open fire!! I'll have to put my fees up!!
-
Just so long as your pupils know you're increasing them in order to support your tea-and-cake habit... possibly I ought to apply to my boss for a rise on the same grounds. Wonder if he'll go for the idea!
-
I'll try it if you do!! ;D
