Title: Ives - Concord Sonata
Post by: tompilk on July 21, 2007, 07:14:16 PM
Does anyone know where Hamelin gets the idea for the bashing the piano once, humoristically, in Hawthorne ending what seems to be a march setting off? (about 5:30 on the recording coupled with the Wright).
I love it.
Perhaps it's from the first edition? Are there any copies of the first edition around? Perhaps a scan?
Thanks,
Tom

In the booklet for Hamelin's Ives/Barber piano sonatas disk, it is mentioned that this sonata has had numerous revisions. Also, it says that there are many "plausible and alternative readings". Hamelin may just be utilizing one of the things we don't see in the present revision of today.
