Tonight I was sitting in a packed theatre listening to 1600 people playing 'On Ilkley Moor Baht'at' on kazoos. One of the strangest things I've ever been paid to do, but it was great!
BTW, this was in the midst of the staged version of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue', which if you're familiar with the show will make the above make a little more sense...

The Bernstein Mass has the choir play kazoo's through one section so i've heard.

Yes, indeed, the explanation does help out quite abit in that regard, although as one already familiar with ISIHAC I did wonder if that was behind your first paragraph even before I read your second.
While on that subject (sorry for the brief digression!), which Cole Porter song is forever associated with ISIHAC?
