I recommend that you think about standardized tests instead. I personally found that a much more demanding challenge than filling out forms- although they were time consuming as well! I only applied to six grad schools, but getting letters of recommendation, filling out tons of forms, calling all sorts of people, taking standardized tests, preparing for those tests, research professors and the work they were doing, making decisions on what I wanted to do, redoing my CV, and writing statements of purpose for each school took A LOT OF TIME. It was all worth it when I got invited to interview, and even more so after I got into school ;).
I understand that it's hard, but how else are you going to convince them that you're worth the time and money? I think that more in-depth it is, the more you can shine!
