Title: Alkan pieces
Post by: pmz310 on May 14, 2008, 06:55:50 PM

I was thinking of learning the Symphony for piano for auditions, I have three years, but I am trying to find other pieces by Alkan, with the exception of his etudes, can you guys give me some names?

his sonate op 33 is wonderful. So is his sonatine, beethoven pc3 transcription, as well as all his chants (especially op. 38 and 65). Also, his op. 15 pieces are wonderful, although the second "le vent" has always been a bit tedious for me with all those chromatic scales and slow moving melody. The equisses op. 63 are lovely too. I also like op. 52. I think that's about all the non-etude pieces he wrote that I like a lot...

Alkan's Chant, Op.38 No.1 Assez vivement is very beautiful.
