What do you guys all wnat to do with music in your life?
do you just want to play for your own amusment or do you have higher visions of grandeur?
My musical ambition is to get my grade 8 (ABRSM) theory done and then study composition at the RNCM i am not much of a performer and never will be my strengths lay elswere
so come don't be embarresed

Okay, you said it, so...
I intend to become the greatest piano teacher in the country and be the dean and teacher for the Yamaha Integrated Course when my teacher retires.
Major Steps:
Get up to a high advanced grade (Gr. 8?) with a teacher
Get into a conservatory of music, major in piano
Graduate, have a successful recital
Teach piano, anywhere just to acquire experience
Apply for the teaching job that I want
Very high aspirations here, but I don't even think anyone would want the job. It is really hard work. And it's the shame to let a poor teacher teach IC. I'm not that good in learning/ performing pieces, but I like to teach and that is what I want to do.

I'll be happy when I can play any one of my favourite Sonatas completely, with no mistakes.
Even if it's only me that hears it, (which is usually the case).
I have a long way to go.
I play for the fun, and the challenge.
I also enjoy the stimulation my mind gets, and the rush when something clicks.

These are my ideals:
In performance,
- To be able to play every piece written for keyboard by Haydn, Chopin and Tchaikowsky.
- To hold at least one performance, to experience such a performance, where I am left more than 'glistening' with perspiration and the audience is left with mouths wide open.
- To play Tchaikowsky's Concerto 1.
- To be of a technical standard whereby I can play any piece I choose to, that is under my hand span, within 2 to 3 weeks proper study.
- To be able to play every scale and arpeggio so they look easy and sound like something that should be listened to.
In thoery,
- To complete a diploma in theory
- To compose several pieces that are considered worth playing by people other than just me
- To have work published, either as student studies or as performance composition
In teaching,
- To have students I enjoy working with, who each one feels precious and appreciated, and who have consantly growing flames of passion for music.
- To have a reputation such that all my students are only those who want to learn enough (no matter how good they are) to keep to my policies simply because they really want me to be their teacher.
- To understand the experience of learning and the individual student enough to be creative and effective in finding sources of motivation and ways to overcome difficulties and challenges each student faces.
- To motivate and inspire all my students to have the courage to perform in recital.
Why I want these things? I don't know.
Are they attainable? I don't know.
What is the reality, present and future? I don't know.
I just know that these longings are in me, and they drive me - and I am totally in my element when I spend time with people who can understand some of what I feel and long for.

I'm not entirely sure, but I really just want to play for leisure. I don't think I'd be up to university standard, or at least the amount of practice that it requires.
Someday I'd like to teach music I guess, if my goal of being a Psychologist falls through. That'd be as a high school teacher and possible a private piano/flute teacher though.

I like hearing other peoples goals, it's interesting.
Composition is something I'd like to get into. I think it would be fun and meaningful to compose pieces for people I know. Like to write something personal for a friends wedding.

Here's how I currently see my path:
Study under my teacher for a year while I upgrade my highschool math to get into university. I will try to put as much of her teaching into practice as I can, while working a fulltime job and having something like a social life.
By then, hopefully I can have enough money saved to be a fulltime student for the year and I can immerse myself in the music program. It seems pretty demanding and thorough. My hope is that I could surround myself in this environment, and over a few years become a competent and well-rounded musician. At some point I'd like to fully delve into improvisation, I think I'd be good at it.
Then try and find a way to make a living in music. If I can't make that work, no problem, I can always fall back on my construction job, and have a beautiful hobby for the rest of my life.

"The Yamaha Integrated Music Course was concieved to give talented music students a chance to establish their profession as a teacher or performer without the required academic subjects. While the regular course leading to a degree in Bach. of Music offered in all schools and conservatories covers a period of 5 years of study or more, the Yamaha IMC may be completed in only 6 semesters.
The Yamaha IMC hopes to raise the standards of musicians who perform in bands or solo, acquire teaching skills and become future Yamaha teachers... "
In short, WE NEED TEACHERS! No, seriously.
The IC, as we call it, used to be a bigger school of talented students, and more teachers. That was before the main office was transferred, and there are less teachers now. I did not even audition for this. The quality has really gone down through the years. And there are only 2 teachers teaching the course currently. Last year it was only one! The dean teaches us, and also teaches piano at the school, and some private students... He is so busy all the time, I want to help out... I looooooove him. :-*

Wanted to compose, too, but I get carried away with studying and performing. I don't write songs anymore, there's no band...

musical goals:
-graduate ABRSM with an excellent score
-compose my own composition and hopefully I can published it
-study in a music conservatory to own more musical skills and go for certain performances,concerts,festivals,competitions and such because I lack experience in performing
-master at least 3 different music instruments
and the rest I haven't think much about...

Well....let's see.
Play the Appassionata and Chopin's 2nd sonata by next year (end of the year goal is impossible).
Finish a transcription of Schubert's lieder and have it published.
Becoming a conductor (maybe a guest conductor, but not full-time).
and other stuff that wouldn't care to you.

Well I originally wanted to go to the CQCM (conservatorium) and become a school teacher but decided I was more interested in IT so doing that now. Didn't want to waste 9 years of lessons though so I still play and am teaching myself all sorts of instruments as well as teaching a couple of low-level students piano. Already got all the formal musical education I want (AMUS piano) so don't really want more.
