Title: problem recognizing chord progressions
Post by: sina_eftekhari on October 26, 2008, 08:34:03 PM
hi all,

I have problem recognizing different chord progressions by ear. In addition when a modulation takes place in a piece I cant tell the relation between the two adjacent keys. Is there any method of ear training that could help me?

thanks

I always listened to the bass.

Start with easier progressions and get those down fairly well.

Understand the theory behind them.  Most of them are just predom, dominant, tonic in some form.

For modulation, listen for what sounds unusual.  Sometimes you have to work backwards a little to see a preceding chord is in both keys.

Otherwise, for methods, there are lots of ear training books out there.  Do the sight-singing and listening exercises to get both sides.
