Hi!
Do any of you guys have a favourite time to pratice or play? I'm not speaking of a specific time but more of the kind of atmosphere ( thunderstorm ) or the time of day ( dusk ).
For me, I like to pratice when its raining with an nice cup of tea, especilly a sad / moody piece like Chopin's Prelude 4 ( it always reminds me of rain ). The sound of the rain make it sound better imo.
I also like to play when the sun is low and my room is filled with gold sunlight, Bach stuff is nice to play at that time I think. I just feel it makes the atmosphere of the pieces more enjoyable.
what are yours? ? ? ? ? ? ? ;)

hmmm .. well, when I first read the title I thought about how it doesn't really matter what time of day, exactly, it matters more what the environment is, and then I find out that this is perhaps actually more along the lines of what you mean. I will say that what matters more even than the environment is what state of mind I am in (of course). Of course the environment can affect this. What I find matters most in terms of my favorite time to practice, is when I am the most focused, and the way I do that best is by being very clear with myself about what actually matters most to me regarding my endeavor. It is just *so easy* to go through the motions and forget why they are being gone through (which seems to create a need for far more of the "motions" to be gone through, incidentally).
Perhaps my favorite time to practice has more to do with seasons in my life and mental being. And, if I had to really nail that down, I would say that "right now" is my favorite time. :)

midnight when everyone is sleeping :D

My favorite time to play is at night, after 9:00 about. I like there to be little
light around, just enough to provide a romantic atmosphere.

Well, one of my most fulfilling practice sessions was 2.5 hrs between the times of 10 PM and 1 AM on a cup of coffee, but I wouldn't do this on a regular basis. Unfortunately, I find it difficult to practice well unless I practice for a long time; I guess it just takes me some time to get into it. But I don't usually have large blocks of time available on weekdays (mostly because I waste too much time - I really need to work on that), and I get self conscious practicing for too much time on weekends, because the piano is in the family room, where my dad usually works. So basically, I think the ideal practice environment is when I'm alone and relaxed. I also have enjoyed the few morning practice sessions I have had (I can't do this often because I don't want to wake people up, but I hate the practice pedal).

mid day because that's usually when my mind is at its prime

Completely agree about about practising when it's raining. Since I have a lamp at the piano I play at night more too which is great, depending on whether I have the house to myself. For me the worst time is the middle of the day, that's when i piss around and waste time.
Either I get up early and do a few hours which is a good time, or at night after dinner. That's when I practice/study/run/socialise/virtually anything the best.
Morning can be really nice if you get up really early and practice while the sun is rising. (I don't do this very often.)

When it's raining!! ;D The best time ever in my country is when the rain season comes... CX I usually practice while waiting the dinner or after I'm home early from the school... It's nice to open the window widely and play 'canon in d' with the wind blewing...

When everyone else is asleep or out of the house. Also sometimes I'll wheel my piano out to the pavers in the backyard and play in the middle of the day under the trees.
-
I like to play in the evening, I can't state a particular season or weather condition though as my back faces the window. I also like the night though, it's peaceful allowing full concentration. Tonight will be an exceptionally late one.

Late, late night. 8)

to practice - first thing in the morning after breakfast. This is when the fingers are very responsive, and I can work on technical problems.
I like to play (or record) around 4pm, after I've warmed up in the morning, and played certain difficult sections very slowly.

This will sound strange, but when I practice it's usually when I can get near a piano, I can sit down and pass 2 or 3 hours by and never realize whats going on, I just get soooo caught up in what I'm doing ,and the great feeling I get by actually making music and by putting what I feel into what I'm playing, It makes me wonder how everyone can't help but to love the piano!!!!

i'm a very nocturnal person...! so i practice in the evening.
-
yeah when it rains outside, at night its so nice too, i love to practise in the morning - sun is shining directly into my windows

in rainy days :)

I like to practice during very random times in the day or night. Usually I find night or early morning is best.
I also like to practice after a stressful day, or after something gets me upset. It may not be good for the piano's tuning, but it keeps me sane. ;)
-
I also like to play when everyone is asleep at 1.00 - 3.00 am ( with earphones on! )

Luckily the past few nights I was the only one home; I love playing late at night (~12 am and on). Huge windows all around in my sunroom, so if the moons out, and I dim the lights, the lighting is really cool around the piano... impossible if my brother is home, because his room is 5 feet away from the piano :P

hi, there!
i usually have no regular time to study, although most of it happens in the small hours.
anyway, the question make me think: the absolutely perfect time to play for me is a cloudy-fall-early-morning, like 8 o'clock. a bach performance in those conditions is remarkable. well, anything played then is remarkable...
best!

I loved to practise in the morning - Iam full of energy - but I can't, cause my neighbours are mad. Then I liked to practise in the evening and my wish would be to practise at night (cause of the silence), but I again can't. Now I have to only practise in allowed time (3-7pm), I have terrible neighbours.
