Title: OK finally, I have a recent VIOLIN video of Me
Post by: violinist on January 23, 2009, 10:15:53 AM
I just wanted to say hello to my old friends (and make new ones!!).  I haven't been on here much (sorry).  After trying out for the YouTube Van Cliburn 2008, I exhausted all my piano time, so I took a huge break from using the computer and playing the piano.  I snuck out my violin to get some old skills up because YouTube had another contest (the YouTube Symphony) - I guess I'm using them as excuses to play the violin/piano.  Maybe you'll vote for me (again??) in February, too.

Here it is: (Me - Calvin Lee - on Violin)

I miss hanging out here.

The piece sounds great, however, your bow arm is stiff and no flexing of the wrist.  I used to play that way.   What method have you learned?  I learned the Suzuki method.  I've playing violin for 8 years, and love it.  I own a handcrafted violin of a Guarneri model.  It has a wonderful sound.  Keep up the good work though.  Bach is great to learn.  Do you know the Vivaldi, Concerto in a Minor---all three movements?  I think you might know it..... :)

Thanks for the comments and advice.  I'll work on it!

It has been a while since I've played the Vivaldi A Minor concerto.  But fond memories of it.  I got to solo with an orchestra with that piece - it was my first solo piece with an orchestra.  I would say that I'm rusty with that piece right now.  How do you like Suzuki? I've never had the chance to learn through that method.  Best of luck to you and keep playing!

Here's a super fast version of the piece:

for those speed demons!  There are plenty of speed demons on here!

Quantum!! hey there.  Besides some old Paganini caprices for the violin, I decided I was going to try some left hand chop/god etude 10/1.  Not too easy though :)

Nice playing. I remember when I asked a friend of mine who works as a freelancing violinist what she had been up to the night before. I mentioned something about what I thought was suck marks on her neck, but it turned out to be from the violin.  :-[

I do like the Suzuki method. Makes sense.  I had a great first instructor and a relaxed arm and wrist is important in order to produce the tone or sound.  I have enjoyed Book 3 and 4 the most.  I like Book 6 as well,  Book 7 was out of sight and difficult, yet I learned the Bach's Concerto No. 1.  Anyhow, I keep playing violin it's a wonderful instrument.  I play guitar also, so the stringed instrument came easily for me.  My instructor told me I was a "natural" and "gifted."  that was so nice of her!    ;D
