Title: Fill in the statistics, if you are familiar with them
Post by: jakub_eisenbruk on January 30, 2009, 07:06:44 PM
I was just wondering lately: how many persons listen to classical music? That means they listen to it more than any other musical genre, they like it and more or less understand it. My composition teacher told me that supposedly 4% of people listen to classical music, but I'am interested in some trustworthy statistics.

Along with, another question, perhaps even more difficult to answer arises: how many persons listen to anotal/bitonal music, ranging from schoenberg to ligeti and finissy? The requirements are not exactly the same as with classical music - it is enough if they listen to it approximately once during a week, and they like it - not necessarily enjoy it more than any other musical genre.

I don't know exactly how many people but I do know that here in the U.K attendences at Classical concerts are up by 40% in the alst 5 years so I guess more and more people are listening to classical music

I guess that alot less people listen to Atonal music here in the U.K the most popular classical music radio station Classic F.M refuses to play Schoenberg

part of the reason I refuse to listen to Classic FM

I'm too busy making my own classical music that I don't have time to listen to classical music in a CD or FM radio.  When I drive around town, I listen to classical music on the FM.  Other than that, life is busy here for me.......
